Default 5w-20 mistake?

First off I want to say I'm new to this forum, secondly I've made a mistake when changing my oil this morning on my 08 outback sport. That being said when I cracked the pan open I happened to look at the jug of pennz ultra saying it was 5w-20 instead of 5w-30, I didn't have time to run to the store to get the correct oil because of work. So my question is will the car be okay or should I switch the fluid out asap?

Do you know what the numbers on oil do? You should read up on that.
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=499177
http://www.upmpg.com/tech_articles/motoroil_viscosity/

Your car should be fine for the time being. But it's cheap money to have the correct oil in your car. Cheap peace of mind, don't you think?

Also, fill in your profile so we know where you are. If you're located in Alaska, that answer is going to be different than if you were in Mexico.

Well I'm going to swap out the 5w-20. Is it okay to leave the oil filter on or should I replace that as well?

If it was an OEM blue filter, then you can leave it

Keep the current filter on there. Don't waste your money on a new one.

What is the part # of the Purelator PureOne filter you use?

The OEM filter has the proper 23 psi bypass spec which is specific to a subaru engine.

I'm not home right now to look at the box due to work but I could have recalled that earlier this year didn't subaru have a recall on those blue filters?

This.

There are hundreds (if not thousands) of stock and modified WRX's driving around with 5W-30 that has sheared to a 20 grade anyway. Since you're n/a it's probably fine. Just keep an eye on the oil level and top up with 5W-30 if it gets low.

Stick around here for a few more years and reply to the countless repetitive threads here and in General. I imagine you'll end up "douchey" as well.
