Default Best turbo upgrade for my 02 wrx

I'm looking to upgrade my turbo and injectors on my 02 wrx. Looking for some information on what would be the most cost efficient combo. Also the car has 130,000 miles on it. So I'm not looking for a really big turbo. Just wanna add some extra HP.

You're going to want to upgrade your fuel pump as well.

Um. Any other info...?

Go stage 2 with a pro-tune first. Plenty more power.

There is no "best" turbo. Without a budget and a horsepower goal, we can't really do much for you except tell you to consult a tuner.

What work is done on the car already? If it's stock, why not start with a simple stage 2 set up? Downpipe and tune...

Read post 4. You need a budget and a WHP goal.

For a 2.0 I'd stick with a vf39/ vf34/ 16g

Spend some time here reading the stickies at the tops of the various forums. You will learn a ton about your car.

You will not just be able to bolt on a turbo and injectors without getting a tune. Big bang, big bucks. On my 04 I picked up a solid 50 HP with an up pipe, a down pipe and a full exhaust. But it would not have worked without a tune.

You need to know first if you want it for low end, mid or top end power.

You can make 'extra' power with the td04 you have now

While everything posted already is true, you need to understand you'll need more than a turbo and injectors. You'll need an aftermarket down pipe (ideally a full turbo back exhaust), fuel pump, larger intercooler (STI is sufficient based on what you seem to be looking for), turbo, injectors, and a tune.

There's tons of threads and info on all this, read the FAQ, and at least do a Google search or forum search. You'll find plenty of write ups.

Start with the dp and stage 2 tune, it's a BIG jump in power and might be all you'll want.

Vf 39 or similar would prob be your best bet, with proper supporting mods obviously.

I would suggest an E85 upgrade path if it's in your area!

This is clearly the best turbo for you based on the information you provided.

VF39 is going to be the most cost effective. Also pretty fun on the 2.0. With supporting mods of course.

I'd like to turn your response upside down a bit......

The OP has not said what mods his car already has nor what his budget is. With an 02, he can run a catless downpipe without a tune. So I am going to have to assume that he does not yet have a catless downpipe. That'll run you fifty bucks used. While you're screwing around down there, pull off the up pipe (if stock) that has a cat in it and buy yourself a catless up pipe for safety sake for yet another $50 used. That'll save you from having your turbo ruined when the cat starts breaking up. Now the good part. You can get $200 for the OEM up and OEM down pipes, making the up/down pipe upgrade not only free....you just made yourself 100 bucks. This is the best upgrade anyone will suggest. You get more power plus you get money.

Sorry guys it took me so long to respond. I have a stage 2 set up already. But I have a bigger problem, I slung a rod threw the top of my block. So now I'm look into getting a EJ207 version7. It is what my tuner recommended.
