Lightbulb Club ideas

This is how I would like to see things happening:

1. We get our club more organzied, i.e. establish membership rules, guidelines, meeting times, etc.

2. We get the logo (whichever one it may be) printed and get business cards, flyers, polos, and the like created.

3. We then try to schedule a meeting with each of the 3 dealerships and discuss with them the things we would like to see them do to further the Subaru name and image in AZ.

4. After meeting with each of the dealerships we (as a group) can decide which one we feel will be the most helpful to us and we can use them as a perferred dealership.

I don't see the dealerships as really caring about us until we get organized and show our numbers. I would guess we could have an easy 20+ core membership group and then the dealerships would start to listen as they see the advertising and referals we could generate for them.

But I see trying to discuss things with the dealership as pointless until we get organized enough to be taken seriously.

Any thoughts?

Aaron

I agree as well. I only have one concern: many local car clubs have "officers" who are very active and a majority of members that are on the sidelines, basically cut out of things. In the initial stages, I think we should be careful to organize the club in a way that promotes overall participation and good communication. I don't really believe any of this will be a problem with the group here and the resources of AZ Scooby and the I-Club, I just had to state my 2 cents

I agree with you Chris. That is why we should have a president and treasurer. That's all. We need to encourage each and every person in the group to participate.

Success comes from knowing that there is no one more important that the team.

Yeah, I think we need to let them know they're in competition with each other for our business.

RE: Club officers,

How about we identify what tasks we need to have performed on a regular basis and decide what sort of "jobs" or positions those tasks should be grouped into. Then, we can make a decision on how many and exactly what officers we need.

Here's a few things I see:

1. We're a web based club, so we definately need someone to maintain and upgrade the site. (OK, we already have Kastle, but I wanted to identify this position explicitly.)

2. We need someone to keep track of membership status & information. (We should probably have an online membership signup.)

3. We need someone to maintain club finances. (BTW: I suggest we try to set up an on-line payment method like Pay Pal or something.)

4. We need someone to act as a single point of contact for members and associated businesses (President? Secretary?)

5. We need someone to maintain records of club activities. (Meeting minutes, event logs...)

6. We need someone to organize events. (This could be done on an ad-hoc basis. Different individuals could step up to organize different events.)

Hmm... what else?

Cool

I nominate Bud for position 2,3,4,5, and 6!! HE-HE! Just joking.

Bud has a good point, although I think we could probably consolidate some of those duties however. For right now, we arent going to need 6 officers. But a year from now we very well could!

Anyone else?

I agree with you Kastle. Although the one thing I like about Buds #6 is that it gives everyone a chance to try their hand at organizing something. You wouldn't have to be a member of the cabinet.

More likely than not, #2 & 3 should be combined and #1 & 4 can be combined. That leaves #5 & 6 which could be combined as well.

I think we should use different terms than president, vp etc. maybe come up with our own 3 or so positions that need to be filled and name those, and then consider ALL other members to have certain event planning and other responsibilites.

I think we need the following (the names can be changed in the future) :

Membership coordinator - keeps track of members, dues, and handles member related problems and concerns.

Website Coordinator - keeps the website updated with events, members lisitngs, etc.

Business coordinator - establishes and maintains relationships with dealers, and vendors. The person the businesses will contact to talk to our group

I agree that we don't want a few officers running the club without participation from everyone, but I think those three positions have to an accountable person in them or we will be lost as a club.

Ideas?

Aaron

Owner, founder, czar, monarch, president, etc <--- This is what we can avoid.

I respect your opinion Aaron, but I disagree. I want to be able to say "I'm not only the president of Azscooby, I'm also a member."

Question

Another point is that when you approach other organizations, Subaru or Subaru dealerships.. they understand the basic duties of a president, vp, treasurer, etc.. and they may not understand the titles Aaron had discussed.

maybe it brings more creditability to the AZScooby group?

kastle, you will always be a member.

I think the only thing that businesses would care about is that they have one contact for the group.

Don't worry Kastle, Everybody knows that the Secretary/Treasurer runs the show and the President is just a figurehead.

I'd like to have the title Grand Exalted One!

We could look to established car clubs or the SCCA for examples of what positions we need and what to call them. I do agree that more classical titles will make more sense to those who care about such things.

-Red

[PS: I think we need to all agree immediately that we have to give the title of "Sissy Bedwetter" to Curt.]

If we are looking for another car organization to use as an example, as I stated sometime earlier, our IS person at work was the treasurer for the AZ chapter of the BMWCCA for 10+ years. He would also be an excellent person about how to get the club / dealership discussions started..

Here's an idea (for both the AZScooby club and the ARA).

The Arizona republic will publish announcements for automobile-related clubs and events on the front page of the Auto Report section in the newspaper. All we have to do is send a letter, fax or E-mail to:

Bob Golfen,
Auto Report
P.O. Box 2245, NM-19,
Phoenix, AZ 85004

Fax: (602)444-8044
E-mail: bob.golfen@arizonarepublic.com

We'd have to send it out at least two-weeks in advance, so it's too late for this weekend's rallycross, but we should start doing this whenever we have big events.
