Cool pics! I like the way you track the car and let the background blur.

Bill,

You asked for feedback, so here's my $0.02. I love close up action shots where the suspension is fully loaded and it's obvious the driver is really hitting it hard. For example:

<IMG SRC="http://www.azscooby.com/members/bud/AutoX1.jpg" border=0>
This is my favorite shot of me autocrossing. Of course, this one has been cropped and resized, but you get the idea.

I know it's hard to catch the timing just right and some cars with stiff suspensions just don't do that, but you asked.

yes that is you, I think your closeup is in the batch to be done tonight...

What is everyone else looking for? Closeup/long shots/don't like the motion blur/etc...

cool. That's the feedback I need. I'll make sure to get some action turns next time. Are you running the Div next weekend? I'll be shooting on Sat, but won't be there on Sun...

I agree with Red, those are great shots with the background blurring and the wheels a spinnin'.
Very cool, hopefully I will be in the next group to be developed.

One view that I think would be pretty neat to see would be from behind the car, with the brakes on hard, and the wheels turning into a corner. Like if you could take a picture from behind the car as it was going through the last gates of the slalom.
Lots of suspension movement.

Yeah, I think it is. It's the pic I used on my members page on the www.azscooby.com web site.

That's a great shot. Your shutter timing was perfect. You must have snapped the pic just a split second after I got back on the gas after breaking to rotate the car into that corner. In airplane terms, I'm at max roll - banking into the turn - yet my pitch is flat or even nose-up a little as I accelerate out of the corner. It'd be an incredible shot if the sun had been in the front instead of behind the car.

BTW: For Bill (and other photographers out there), another bit of input. Personally, I think action shots where you're on the gas are better then shots where you're on the break.

Thanks all, for the pics.

I can't tell which one is me:

<IMG SRC="http://www.runnyegg.com/autocross/21101/427.jpg" border=0>

or:
<IMG SRC="http://www.runnyegg.com/autocross/21101/521.jpg" border=0>

Anyone?
Or are they the same car and neither are mine?

Mike

Nice job, Bill. What speed film do you use to get the blur? Or do you use neutral density filters to darken things up?

I'm shooting 200 speed film, pulled one stop, at 1/20th of a second. I'll probably bump to 1/30th for the next event, to make the blur a little less as I don't have the luxury of multiple shots for each car with the size of our groups...

Thanks Bill. I really enjoy photography and I'm always looking for something to improve it. The blur adds excitment to the otherwise boring background out there. I saw you at the event, but I didn't get a chance to introduce myself but I'll see you at the rallycross for sure and possibly another autocross.

Oh, hell... I guess I'll take an 8x10 and the original 4x6. I'd also like a high-resolution scanned soft copy that I can crop and resize for use on my personal web site, if you don't mind. Your scanner is obviously much better then mine. When you make the 8x10, would scan me as big an image as you can put on 1 floppy (J-Peg format is fine). I won't use it for commercial purposes and I'll put a copyright notice next to it on my page.

The more I look at that pic, the more I like it; rear windows blacked out, driver and helmet silhouetted through the open front windows - tires spinning, the background a blur, and yet the car clear and sharp.

Nice job.

Ah... Nope, no photoshop. The 6-meg J-Peg was perfect.

Thanks,
