Default Crosstrek vs STi

I pulled that trigger this weekend....

Traded the '09 STi for a '14 Crosstrek.

Mostly because I am old and broken. Left leg was shattered and reconstructed 10 years ago and over the years, it has become less and less clutch friendly. And with my commute from Frederick to Rockville everyday, and traffic only increasing, it was time.

Traded at Gaithersburg Fitz and got $20k for trade in. Lightly modded with turboback, Cobb off shelf map, and Rota Grids. While I was in finance, 2 people had already inquired about it's possible sale, post inspection, heh. She was very well treated, garage kept, 90% highway miles at 70k miles, and never in a body shop. Most importantly, never dogged. Runs amazingly well. She will make someone a great ride. I will miss her.

The Crosstrek, of course, is NIGHT and DAY. The lack of power is frustrating, heh. But, it makes up for it with amazing comfort. I opted for a Limited with nearly every package available, minus upgraded security and remote start. Garage however, so no major loss there. So far, I am very content with the deal, but, it will take a LOT of getting used to. I think Subaru did well by the Crosstrek and I hope it shows the direction they intend to go in. Luxury, utility, and fun all in one.

So, here's to Subaru. My 3rd one in a row. I will live vicariously through everyone on the forums who continues to harness more power.

I looked at those for my mom when her van got totaled a month ago, pretty sweet car but lacked power.

Should have gone with the Forester. Turbo and CVT.

Hate to say it, but I can't stand the new Forester aesthetically. That was my only gripe there. Price wasn't really an issue. Though, I walked away with my fully loaded XV for $27.8. I'll complain for a little while.... but I will soon get used to being the go-cart on the road.

I'll continue digging out my garage to see what parts and such I have from my STi. In case there is anything of use to anyone on here.

But.... even though I am not in the STi anymore, feel free to wave to the silver XV on the highway struggling in the far right lane. I still love you guys!

I got my Crosstrek at the same dealer, traded it in 9 months later on a WRX lol. Wasn't happy with the seats, handling or power.

I think I may have actually seen you up there trading it in. I bought my '11 SWP hatch there that Saturday. Modded STI right up front that I was drooling over. Anyways, I love the switch you made. I considered going from my 04 wagon to one.

A man has to do what is right. I pretty much drove and tried all the Subies I could, because my stupid dealers didn't have a WRX.

Everybody should drive a Crosstek. Then you'll want something else.

Ahh Vtec, I think I recall seeing you when I pulled in. The SWP was about 2 spaces down from where I parked. Think you left soon after I pulled in.

You have no idea what sort of words I overheard while I was there. Everyone from salesmen to porters to techs were questioning "why in the hell would anyone trade that in?"

Regardless, the ONLY thing I miss is the power. And ya, that is a LOT to be missed over the whopping 148hp I am harnessing now. But, I am far more comfortable during my daily commute now. Where the STi lacked, the Crosstrek improves (granted, like Augustus said, the seats aren't exactly the most comfy, as I am used to nice wrap-around buckets). Leather, heated elements, sat/nav, cushy suspension (ya ya.... far cry from my Swifts, heh), etc etc.

I am still happy enough with the purchase. I drove my STi like an old man anyways. If anything, some second owner out there is gonna get him/herself a lightly modded STi that has seen a very easy life and treated very well.

Aw c'mon now, there's nothing special to show anyways. IT'S A SNOW CAPABLE GROCERY GETTER!

It's really all stock except mine has the Sport mesh grill and sport tailgate wing. Looks a lot like this stock photo (same color, granted mine with the bigger wing)

Ordered and received in the mail today, the side window deflectors, moonroof deflector, hood deflector, and PIAA headlight bulbs.

RallyArmor, Subtle 1" lift, new wheels and rugged tires (TBA) soon....

Now if only the Innovate S/C was XV friendly.

My 13STI was ISM so I love that color. I also think it contrasts well with the dark panels and wheels.
The orange is okay but I like the silver

PS here are your old wheels now:

Hopefully well cross paths again in the future

Glad they went to good use Jeff. They look good all cleaned up.

Of course, I am still trying to appreciate the Trek. It's been a nonstop battle with the dealer over the trade in. Almost every day now since I traded it in, they have called with questions and "complaints". On the trade in note, listing that the turboback and engine tune are vehicle modifications, you would THINK the appraiser would take that into consideration if they had a problem with it. Well, here we are over a week later and they seem to be trying to bully me into paying for a new exhaust system to pass inspection. I fail to see how that is my problem if they were given that information, in writing, prior to sale, and they went through with the trade in/sale. One more harassing phone call and I guess I will need to ping my lawyer.

That's not your problem. It's their. You both agreed on a price for the trade in, they looked it over, I assume they drove it as well and were contempt with it. Not your problem. I would Just ignore them.

I'm not concerned about it. Besides, I used to be a tech at various dealerships and know the politics.
