Good question. My guess is that they actually don't know. When I mentioned the secret menu on the HU that people have discovered here, along with a couple of other things NASIOC members have discovered, the service manager at my nearest dealership didn't have any idea that these things could be done. Sadly, dealers seem to be giving out answers based on assumption rather than facts, unless that is what Subaru is telling the techs.

Can someone confirm which part number it is that has the hands free and the cruise control buttons?

Thanks!

Just installed on my 2012 Subaru Impreza 2.0i hatchback. Confirmed the cruise buttons works without any problems! Now I need to figure out how to get the audio controls to work with my Pioneer...

Unfortunately this did not work on my 2010 Subaru Exiga. I got an Imprezza cruise control pad for $30 delivered on Ebay which fitted extremely easily (same steering wheel, no airbag clips) but the cruise button does nothing other than turn the dash cruise light on! I think some software download thing happened when I first installed the switches but perhaps I needed to enter something on the screen like "run" or "install". Unfortunately my car is an import from Japan and all the screen commands are in Japanese! Any suggestions? I suspect some bit of hardware is missing to activate the brakes.
cheers
Richard

Just got my cruise control installed. Was a bit of a pain to install but it works great. I messed up a little doing mine so it took a little longer. When I put it all back together I forgot to bolt the steering wheel on. Had to take it apart and bolt it back up. Then I didn't put the steering wheel on completely straight. I'm pretty much a pro at taking it apart and putting it back together now. Make sure you pay attention to how the wiring is routed. And you'll also have an extra connector that clips into the back piece on the steering wheel. I think it might be for paddle shifters, but I don't know.

Is it possible to plug in the cruise control without removing the steering wheel? It looks like it plugs right in after the air bag module comes out.

No, it all needs to come out. The SWC's have screws from the back. Really, getting the air bag out is about the worst part anyway. After that it goes pretty easy. I did a write up when I replaced my steering wheel with the factory leather one. Same procedure to do what you want.

You need to remove the wheel to get access to the nut for fitting the switch. It's really easy, just don't forget to disconnect the battery. I could do it all in 15 mins now but sadly the cruise control just doesn't work!

Could it be I'm missing a relay? There is nothing in the stop lamp relay spot...

Well, the relay wasn't connected but am not giving up yet. My switch has 5 wires (not 3) and the plug has 8 pins (not 10 or 12). Anyone know the significance of the extra 2 wires? Maybe I need to move the wires?

So if I order the number five I wouldn't have to mod the harness.

You're probably not gonig to get much help in this thread. This is for the newest generation of Impreza. Your car may be completely different than ours so nothing you see here is probably going to work for you.

That's correct. It plugs in to the same spot with the same connector as just the audio controls. You'll have an extra connector that clips into an area near the bottom of the steering wheel.

Thanks for posting this, definitely going to be trying it soon!

On a side note, does anyone know if a 2012 Impreza Hatchback Base with CVT transmission can be upgraded to the paddle shifters in the same fashion? Just plug and play? It probably won't work because the shifter/transmission is set up for Drive and Low (to the side), but I figured I would ask since I didn't think the cruise control install would be that easy.

Thanks!

I'm just guessing here, but I don't think it's possible. My reasoning, our 2.0i doesn't have the ability of being put into manual drive mode. Like you mentioned, we only have the option to select low gear. I believe that is our limiting factor regarding your query.

Finally got my cruise control working! The problem was I had the 2 pin stop light switch rather than the 4 pin combined stop light and brake switch. This meant I was getting a brake switch error which disabled cruise. It was a breeze to install because the 4 pin connector was already wired into the loom. Total cost of cruise buttons and stop switch was NZ$80 (that's about US$60)! Subaru and several auto electricians told me it was not possible, what a load of bull!

So what is the part number for the 2012 impreza? There's at least 4 different part numbers posted in here. I ONLY want the cruise controls, I have an aftermarket head unit and I don't want to rewire it to use audio controls.

Edit: is it #4 here? http://heubergersubaruparts.com/part...agramCallOut=4 and that's just plug and play right, no cutting up harnesses?
