Cool Apache Trail Information

OK, I've driven this entire loop once and it took a good 4 1/2 or 5 hours in moderate to mild traffic.

Here's what's along the way (milage numbers are "guesstimates", I don't remember exactly).

Heading East on I-60, take the Idaho Rd exit North. About 3-4 miles North of the 60, take I-88 East (that becomes the Apache trail) heading roughly North-East.

Goldfield Ghost Town - about 3 miles
Canyon Lake - 15-20 miles
Tortilla Flats - 5-10 miles (Pavement Ends)
Apache Lake - 15-20 miles
Roosevelt dam & lake - 15-20 miles (Pavement begins)

I continued on to Globe (another 20-30 miles roughly South) Then headed back West on I-60 about 80 miles back to Mesa.

The whole Apache trail is a good 70-80 miles of mostly 1-lane mountain side road and only about 1/3 of it is paved. After Roosevelt dam, it's paved 2-lane freeway.

It's a great way to spend a morning or an afternoon.
