Default Car Accidents/Experiences

Hi everyone,

I've had my fair share of accidents and a spun rod bearing. Sigh. I started reflecting back on all of those accidents and just started getting mad haha

If you guys want to share you experiences/stories..post! I'm interested in reading what some of you have endured during your lifetime.

1998 Honda Accord Coupe - Been into 7 accidents during my ownership. None of which were my fault. Every side has been hit. The first major was on the driver's side. Some lady making a wide turn onto my street (I was driving straight, right lane) and she goes into the left lane after the turn. Then all of the sudden, boom! She pulls into my lane and takes me off the road. $7K in damages later...i get my baby back. It's funny because I paid $7500 for the car =/

2011 STi hatchback - I had the car for less than 20K miles and some kid rolls thru a stop and sign I t-bone him. Thread here: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=2389264

2013 STi hatchback - spun a rod bearing =/ Protuned and install done by IAG Performance. More info to come.

Feel free to post. My co-worker shared a story on Car Ancestry about how he parked his car on a hill and didn't put it in gear...ebrake got loose and car rolled down!

2011 STi wreck was avoidable you need to always observe other people, not just their cars. It would be obvious the guy wasn't stopping if you'd have been paying attention.

I got rear ended by a guy texting on his phone who then tried to flee the scene. I ran down his Audi like a bitch then got him arrested.

This is also when I found out what a bunch of ******** Allstate is. Worst insurance company ever bar none.

Good times.

None of mine are interesting. Lots of idiots hitting me in the rear. When I was restoring an Alfa spider, I got parts fron a guy who had stripped his own Alfa spider. He lent it to a friend who parked on a hill left in gear. 5th gear. It slowly started to move then gained speed. Went down the hill an over a cliff

That's what she said! (Couldn't help it lol)

My only wreck was sliding into a wall after hitting black ice. Was doing 15 under the speed limit in my FXT in inclement weather. Went around a slight bend and lost control. I simply walked away after the accident. These cars are pretty safe and I was wearing me seat belt as well.

Dude, Halloween night I was in my 2007 impreza, this jerk tried to beat the light and i slammed into him.

My first accident, in my new 07 impreza which was still being paid for.... Totaled!! I had the car since march

It was definitely a lot more emotional than physical pain

Put a ver.2 STi-RA into a dirt bank
at 80kph during my dumb days. Cut a corner a bit too much on semi slicks. Went from tarmac to loose gravel cutting the corner. Destroyed the RA, I had internal bruising for weeks and a 3k repair bill. It was my friends car too. We're still friends as well.

My friend drove his ****ty van at 5 mph into a ditch, the result was me losing half the skin on my face and nearly going permanently blind. The airbag went off and my face was right near the dash (was getting his drink for him). I lost around a month of my life memory wise and it really messed up that semester school wise. I have a picture of it but its probably too graphic to post in general. Surprisingly, after a surgery to repair my vision, I am pretty much completely normal now. You'd never know I was in an accident like that, no idea how my face wasn't horribly disfigured haha.

05 corolla: first on the highway, guy in front of me wants to make a turn from the far lane. He comes to a dead stop in front of me, I don't hit him instead a semi hits me from behind. The semi got slow enough that the damage was minimal, the guy in front took off and we didn't get his plate number.

second accident in that car, I back out of the driveway and come to a stop, neighbor backs into me.

14' sti: No accident but a close call. I come to a crawl to a stop sign with a guy stopped in front of me. Snow's covering the ice right underneath, I start to slide and the abs has no effect. I ended up braking myself and nearly riding up the curb but no hit!

Yes. she was fine apparently Ford has some sort of system that drops the motor lower in the car during a front collision so she wasnt happy that her car was basically totalled.

I had some guy decide to try and make his left turn despite being blind. There was another car just a little ahead of me in the right side lane making a right turn and the guy couldn't see me beyond that car (I was in the left hand lane) nor could I see him. Instead of waiting he guns it and at the last second we see each other and I t-bone the driver side of his car. I was going slow enough that neither car deployed airbags but the impact still sent his car skidding quite a ways nearly doing a 180.
100% his fault, I ended up doing my own repairs and pocketed about $1,200 The damage on my car was minimal enough that I could keep daily driving it, his was non-driveable and towed away. Fast forward 5 years and that car ends up spinning a rod bearing but it never had any driveability issues after that accident.

In my WRX, about 2 months ago I was on my way to class sitting on an off-ramp waiting for the light to turn green. I'm just watching traffic go through the intersection when suddenly I heard tires screeching and it was getting louder. I look in my rear-view mirror to see some guy in a Honda throwing smoke up everywhere and completely sideways coming right at me. Luckily he stopped in time. He ends up going the same route and continues to speed and cut traffic off despite his close-call with my car. Some people just never learn.

Same here. Was rear ended twice in my parents Toyota Corolla when I was younger. Once was a girl reaching for something, another was an old dude who just wasn't paying attention. I saw him in my rear view and told my buddy to brace for impact He then tried to talk his way out of the accident saying none of the damage was from him, until I pointed out I could read his license plate in my plastic bumper

Was rear ended again in my parent's Toyota Tacoma. Was hit at about 45 when I was at a dead stop. BMW behind me went underneath the truck. Totalled both vehicles.

Also slid off the road in my parent's Toyota Sienna going over White Pass here in Washington State. I was only doing about 20 mph but the load of wood I had in the back made me fish tail and right when I almost countersteered out of it, the rear tire caught the dirt shoulder and pulled me in.

Ever since I have had my own vehicles I haven't been in a single accident in the last 5 years. Glad all my accidents happened in my parent's vehicles so they could take the depreciation hit

Crashed my '88 5.0 Mustang when it did an impromptu "dorifuto" in a turn going uphill in the rain at above the posted speed limit. I was angry and stupid(er) at the time. Ended up in the opposite lane and hit the guard rail. The impact caused my head to break the driver's side window. Other than a mean headache, a tweaked neck, and possibly a mild concussion, the only other injuries were small cuts on my hands from trying to brush the glass off the seats. Luckily, didn't end up in a ravine and no other cars were involved.
The Mustang looked like it was rear-ended - the steel bumper structure was hanging on by two bolts as it was practically torn off the mounts and some welds in the trunk floor area popped. Ended up tying the loose end of the bumper back on the remains of driver's side mount with some speaker wire and drove it back home that night in tears because of the exhaust fumes leaking into the cabin. Sold it for parts and apparently the buyer repaired it and just sold it to someone else earlier this month after almost 10 years. FWIW, it took me a while before I got the nerve to drive the replacement Mustang on that same road in the rain at a more relaxed pace.

2006 Jeep GC Limited got T-Boned by a mid 90's Mustang with a dumb kid behind the wheel, who decided to punch it out of a Gas Station parking lot without looking both ways. His excuse to the police officer who arrived was "The driver on the other side of the road was waving him out", Ummmm?! You might want to look left for oncoming traffic first!

Some girls in an Xterra backed into my WRX trying to parallel park. Since it was a truck, it smashed my hood, fender, light and bumper. They drove off, but the honest people running the barber shop across the street saw it, got their plate, and left a note on my car to come in and talk to them. I called the police, they gave the statement that they saw the driver hit my car, then came out of the car...looked at the damage done to mine, then drove off. The police tracked her down for hit and run. Later her mother tried to get me to drop the charges, but I had to tell her I was not the one pursuing the charges. The case document read City of Tallahassee vs. XYZ.

A few months later another driver thought it was clear to pull out and drove into mostly my rear wheel and door so it swung me out of the way. I looked in my rear view and saw her car slowly going forward instead of stopping, so I did a 180 and cut her off. Then waved her back into the parking lot. During which time she kept trying to get me not to call it in, and that she just got her "limo" license. I was already on the phone with police when I stepped out of the car.

Another time in my GTO a Corolla pulled out of an alley and the front end of his car seemed like it exploded. The bumper and light flew off his car and the hood was bent all up. Mine just had some slight damage to the fender. I waved the kid into the parking lot across the street when he was saying what do we do...I've never been in an accident. I'm like we call the police. He was very nervous...I didn't really even care, I was getting a kick outta how ****ty his car looked compared to mine.

If you've been in like a hundred accidents there's a good likely hood you're a ****ty driver regardless who is found at fault

Tell that to my wife, she's been in 7 accidents and had 4 cars totaled. All not her fault. She's just a target of people running stop signs or carelessly driving around with no awareness. We always tell people that if they want an insurance payout for their car, to let her drive it for a week

Hey Nasioc, I love your site and wanted to share my Subaru story. (:

Heading off to college, I found myself in a somewhat dumpy apartment complex. It was homey though, with nice people. Walking out in the parking lot one day, I saw it. The most beautiful car I had ever seen. I walked around it at least three times, and gazed upon it. A 2007 world rally blue Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

Later on, I happened to meet a boy, Andrew, in this same apartment complex as I at a group party. The next day, he took me on a date. He knocked on my door, and the butterflies were racing. Then he took me down into the parking lot and hit the unlock button... The STi flashed it's headlights. This is his car!?

It was the most amazing thing I had ever been inside, and my date was so humble about it. He named her Styandra, a name he thought suited beauty and power. (:

Well, as the story goes, memories were made, and I fell in love with this man. Months later, he got down on one knee and I said yes!

During the engagement period, it was my turn to drive the STi. I had never driven stick before, and my fiancÚ taught me in a parking lot. I only killed her twice, and after that we were one. I drove her everywhere, sprinting off green lights and feeling the adrenaline on freeway ramps. If I was having a rough day, nothing made me happier than a drive with my fiancÚ and Styandra.

We were married June 11, 2013. It was the happiest day of my life.

We moved into a small apartment, and Styandra looked so good in the small parking lot. My hubby started letting me drive her to work and school. People waved and the other Subaru drivers ALWAYS waved. It felt good.

One night, after a visit to my parents, it was time to head home. My husband and I climbed into our natural gas truck, the commuter, and headed toward the city of our school, where we had left the STi. When we arrived, I wanted to drive her the rest of the way home. I climbed in, happy as usual, and started her up. The sound of her engine made me smile each time. Everything was going great, and I was following Andrew in the truck. It felt nice to be alone in the STi, where I could downshift for a while, and then catch up to him in a matter of seconds. (: A freeway entrance came, and then the worst thing in my life came to pass. The STi lost grip on both back tires which were very bald, we couldn't afford new ones for another week. (One week!!) She spun to the right, and I was taught not to over correct. With any thought I had I tried to bump her back straight, but it took me a complete full spin to the left. I saw the freeway wall coming, I closed my eyes tight and thought, no, please no. The impact was strong, and we smashed into the wall, skidding down it until we came to a halt. The police were already there, there must have been an officer around. My husband saw the whole thing, he ripped the door open frantically repeating to me if I was okay, if I was hurt, and I was crying. But I was only crying about one thing. The STi. The ambulance ride, the hospital, nothing phased me. My husband tells me I just kept sobbing and repeatedly saying Andrew, the car... The car... Andrew the car...

I was fine. I walked home that night, though my right leg and elbow throbbed. We sore home, I tried to sleep. Somehow I told myself "We have insurance, it will be okay. She isn't totaled."

The news came, totaled. I sobbed and sobbed. Andrew was okay, he was my strength through all of it. The official who decided the car was totaled said that I should have died in the accident. Styandra saved my life.

I have cried so much over the accident, but I keep my chin up. There is no way we can afford another now, but we are saving all we can to get another! Every extra penny counts.

I even bought a STi shirt that I wear proudly while Andrew wears his STi hoodie. (;
