Default Need help Iding a part/piece.

Ok I have a 07 WRX Wagon, but my question is not about my wagon. I was changing the oil on my wifes 06 VW Jetta GLI today and when I unscrewed the plug for the oil pan and a half inch piece of metal came out with the plug. the piece is curved and smooth. We think its goes to where the piston and the rod connects. I have an image that shows what we think it is #3.
