never could get a good picture, but i love it, especially the overhead lights they are incredibly useful
Cool. Don't know why I couldn't get a search to find this. Subscribed. I guess I should search through the threads you started next time, ha.

My friend has this oem on his Mazda 3, it's sweet. The overhead light is the main thing I like about it.

I have done more to my car than I can remember and the best part is most wouldn't know it wasn't stock.

I'm happy enough with my fog aiming, I'm probably sitting about 3/4" low from the center at 10ft, an not going to raise them another 1/8" so they are perfect.

I drove this morning through 1/2 mile visibility snow with the fogs, corners, and drls on and it worked great. Passed a lot of morons driving with high beams on, wtf people.....

I might wire in a switch to kill drls

Are the drls putting out too much light?

No but there is some glare/reflection. No where near the level of the low beams, but I'm curious. I could just unplug it and see

I'm guessing that it would be difficult to figure a way to have the the drls turn off when the parking lights are on...

Just a switch or a relay, but I like the drl function and don't want to permanently remove it

I thought about it, and I do like the switch idea.

Well, the low beam fuse is fine and no other lights went out so it's gotta be that both lights coincidentally popped at the exact same time. First time I've seen that happen. Wonder if the low temps we had last night had anything to do with it? Guess I'll have to get on modding my spare pair of H9's.

I was gonna ask if you were running h9's. How long did they last?

That happened on my wife's Honda Odyssey once. Damn-est thing to troubleshoot, as I (like you) wouldn't expect BOTH bulbs to go at the same time.

Installed them this past April. They've lasted a good 8 months. Not too bad I suppose.

Yeah, it was weird... Almost like there was a power surge that blew them out.

So I just finished replacing my low beams with new Philips H9 bulbs and everything seems to be working perfectly fine. No melted harness, blown fuses, etc. Guess it was just a fluke.

Heh. Maybe you willed them out, so you could see what your ride would look like with independent fogs...

Bump.

I took my ride to the shop today. My guy looked at it for over an hour and didn't want to do it.

He was worried that tapping into a different power source would mess with the BIU. He said a relay might negate any ill effect, but he didn't have one and he usually doesn't like to do mods like this, especially since he is unfamiliar with our cars (he works on older roos, and has done this mod to many of them, that's why he said he would try).

He recommended going to a customizer down the street that has more experience with modifying electrical systems, and let me go free of charge.

The guys there told me it shouldn't be a problem, and want me to come in on Monday. Cool thing was, one of the installers used to work with a friend of mine and is a pretty good guy. So I'm positive that any work done will be top notch.

Fingers crossed...

Your guy doesn't understand electrical systems....why would you need another relay just to trigger the other one?

Don't ask me, I know less than him!! Electrical speak is Greek to me, so I didn't fully understand what he was explaining to me as a possible solution and couldn't RELAY the info back to you guys correctly. My bad.

This guy's garage is a repair/tune/state inspection shop. So I'm happy he gave it a go and pointed me in the right direction.

Done.

He connected them to the ignition, so there should be no dead battery issues.

I should do that, maybe when it warms up. So far I haven't left them on just due to how I use them, but there is always a little paranoia of did I?

Exactly. I'll hopefully get to use them today, as it's supposed to be snowing all day.

I don't know if your a football fan, but Steve Atwater was there getting his remote start installed!

18ga IIRC, which should be good for 14amps. (but that number varies widely depending on where I look)

still more than even my Outback fogs w/ H11's draw (7.9amps @ 14.0v).

but don't quote me on the numbers, I could be way off, I know i was using 16g wire to cut/splice with and it was larger than the wire i was soldering onto, but not huge in comparison. just look at my pics in the guide. the solid green colored wire isn't much bigger than the wires soldered too. soo, probably 18ga
