Aftermarket will only get you so far, "there's no replacement for displacement!"

The rest of the upgrades are alright. I don't personally care for digital gauges or faux CF interior. Just personal taste though.

The clicking of those paddles scream fisher price. The "launch control" is just torque braking. It doesn't even chirp the tire. Even the 02 has a better "launch control" mode. IE: rev it past 5000 in neutral, let revs fall back down, put in D, and torque brake it. All of a sudden it'll let you hold 3500rpm and launch in boost chirping all 4.

I think the CVT option is great. Reason being, some of my friends got injured over seas and always wanted to own a WRX/STI, now they finally have that option.

At first I did not like the look but it is starting to grow on me a bit. I also don't like the change to a 2.0L but I am interested in the performance potential and the twin scroll is pretty shweet. My BIG BIG reason for not wanting this new WRX is that while my 08 was in the shop I had a Crosstrek (same chassis and almost the same interior) as a loner and hated it!! Over the 3 weeks I had it and constantly trying I still could not find a comfortable driving position! I also did not like the rest of the interior. The current interior I feel is still a much nicer place to be.

***and my rant reads as follows...
Those CVT transmissions are a HUGE GINORMOUS PIECE OF SUCK A$$!!!!!!! I don't care if it offers better fuel economy or 0-60 times. Any car that has "sport" in its scope should NEVER in a million years ever be offered in any form but MT! All the lazy half witted $@ckle$$ uninteresting and completely worthless nimrods that buy the CVT should have their left leg right arm and te&ties chopped right off as they are handed the keys. It is obvious that they have no use for and of those body parts.

/\That is the only valid reason for a CVT. That option should only be available if you are an injured vet. In fact I would be 100% on board for the CVT if and only if the only way to get one is that Subaru would "share the love" and give them free of charge to seriously injured vets.

I find it hard to believe this car is as good as Ryan says it is. How can you possibly be that excited for this car? My initial reaction to Ryan's reaction was that he sounds like a complete fanboy. Which pretty much invalidated his review. At-least for me.

When they removed the UEL headers its as if they've removed the soul of the suby.

i cant believe how many whiners there are about losing the boxer rumble. Get over the noise that represents an inefficient design. the stereo has always sucked. just replace it with a better unit.

The wrx (reportedly) can actually turn, brake, and has a highly useable torque curve. who cares about the stock 0-60 time. How often are you actually testing that. what will be nice is to be in second gear at low speed and not have to wait forever to get some torque. i cant wait to see this thing with some stage 2 mods. if the stage 2 power numbers are close to the 09+ stage 2; I am jumping in.

The only question is how to de-ugly the front end

I had my 2005 STI for almost 9 years, and I got really excited when I saw the proto, but once I saw the production WRX I immediately went and got a different kind of car (no more waiting for me).

The loss of the famous burble is too much for me (I *love* that sound), but before that, the styling is just ass. Its all subjective and from my subjectivity, all I see is an assy design. Its terrible. 4 exhaust pipes, really? Looks like a lot of generic cars smushed together. Aweful.

I hope to come back to WRX (STI) when Subaru get their act together.

^ this, it really is hilarious to see all the whining. Getting old though.

If Ryan is even still in here with the mouth breathers, did you get a chance to check out the LED headlights on that Limited? I'm curious how those lights are gonna pan out against my current Limited's stock HIDs.

I dunno. I've liked almost all the updates. I've been following WRX since long before they were here in the US (I grew up in Australia and moved here in the 2000's). Besides the bug-eye and this one, I've liked 'em all.

Love the front end of the car, and the new silver/gray that Subaru is using. All the upgrades will save the buy from having to modify the suspension etc. with out the UEL headers it will loose some appeal but paired with the right exhaust you will still get some rumble out of the boxer even with EL. For instance my 06 2.5i when i had its OEM EL paired with a turboxs axle back it had some rumble to it and did not sound like a honda.

I certainly wouldn't claim that there can't be any valid disagreement/dislike of particular changes. While I honestly wasn't very aware of the WRX prior to the first USDM MY when I purchased my first one.. since then though, every major change I've wittnessed has brought out people claiming it was "ruined", and/or suddenly "ugly" and/or making statements (or simply parroting statements) like "it's soul is gone", "it looks too much like other small cars", etc., etc.

It's like ground hog day.

Another thing I find amusing is how many of the same people who say things like "I don't want to trade a little peak power for the boxer rumble" (as if a little peak power is all the twin scroll set up does for you) will spend tons of time effort and money trying to eliminate lag or improve the power band on their older WRXs. Those people have likely never driven a twin scroll 2.0 turbo vehicle to feel the difference in the power band compared to a traditional laggy WRX.

Subaru says they're going after the "over-30, post grad male with a $100,000+ household" with this car. Well that's me... and if there's one thing I know, a car can look different in person than it does on film. That plus the fact that in the online review comments, a lot of people complaining about the looks also have avatars sporting their newest flatbill... And you know what, I'm ok with them not liking the new model.

Ahh the good old Subaru superiority complex. It's funny to see a lot of people are still butt-hurt that our precious econobox became affordable to the "Honda" crowd as they aged. Reality check, it's still an econobox.

Some of us in the aforementioned "target audience" aren't 100% in love with it either... like me. It is true that things generally look better in the flesh than on film, and I'm ok with the loss of the fender flares, but I just can't get past the rear. It just seems rather boring.

Ah well... at this point I'm really looking forward to see how the STi comes out.

That review might have been done by a soccer dad and he had about as much enthusiasm as an enema salesman. It was almost as if he knew the car was **** and was forcing himself to like the car to keep his paycheck. I think this was a big mistake on Subaru's part. The body is like a Camry, the interior like a Prius, the performance like a minivan,... and the handling? Subaru's have been known for their handling for a LOOOONG time. To try and compare it to a Porsche when you're driving on straight, flat roads should make anyone suspicious of the guy's honesty. I'd like to keep believing in Subaru's ability to make good, fun, and worthwhile cars, but this model looks half cooked to me. I'll wait for the STI to come out and pray for a bigger turbo.

The STI numbers have come out. 305 HP and I believe 296 torque.

If making it bland (looking and sounding) is supposed to get my $$'s it didn't work. I want my WRXs and STIs to be hooligan cars, no matter how much coin I make. I too am curious to see how the STI looks/sounds/performs, hopefully something more wild.

Really? Since when? Mine handles like crap. Gotta drop almost 2 grand in suspension upgrades to get it to handle properly.

Actually, I think the unibody IS a Camry. We'll have to post some pics and see if the a-pillars, windshield, and other shapes look the same. Since Toyota owns a decent chunk of Subaru and seems to be guiding some of their new developments, I expected this.

Overall it looks to be the size of a Legacy GT. Great for a family man but not quite the same niche as the old cars.

I think what he meant that they have been known to make a false sense of handling and confidence from their awd system. The only one you could argue that handled well would be the Sti but at least in the us always falls short to the evo.

They own 16% I wouldn't call that a "decent chunk".

Straight up I love Subies period from ole brats to Legies I love Subies, this car honestly never looked bad to me...why cause it really looks like a smaller legie..is that bad. No like I said I love all Subies period and I will stick with my saying..Subie Flat4 Lyfe ... car looks fun and in stock form its pretty impressive, granted sways and bracing and bushings and coilovers help our GS GD bodies have no roll. This is good to see that fnally the benchmark was with Porsche the aero design still used today and one of the best.

I Like it.
