There is a PCA autox at Devens Sunday. Are they very open to other marques? Last year they grudgingly agreed I could bring the WRX since I was looking at 911's, but the experience was so off-putting that I bagged the whole idea.

In olden days when they had them at Orange Airport, they didn't care who came and the more the merrier.

It says 30 days in advance and the payment is pending, so you don't know if you are in or not. I'll pass, NESVT has one 5/17.

Whether they allow it or not, why would you expect them to have a significantly different attitude just a year later? If the vibe sucks, go with another group.

I hope this is not taken the wrong way as it could be, but I have done a handful (like two or three) events with PCA in my life; it is a very ritzy, haughty, stuck up crowd. Every negative stereotype of middle aged to older wealthy white guys who used to be yuppies when they had more hair on their heads applies. Sorry to be so negative about it, it doesn't really upset me at all, and is to be expected, but it's not a fun crowd by any means. That said one on one they can be very nice, extremely knowledgeable and have a camaraderie that is rare in the automobile world, on parallel with that of the turbo Subaru crowd. It's just not my cup of tea.

I did a track day with PCA at NHMS last year and found it to be the complete opposite of that generalization I expected going in. The guy in the bay next to me was super nice and a bunch of people chatted me up since I had the "rare" car there.

Yah, the reaction of having or telling people you have a Subaru is mostly one of a sheepish look back almost as if "oh, I'm sorry to hear that" as if you just told that person that your wife was diagnosed with cancer.

I'll be at the track for #1. Circuit de Catalunya that is. My car's ready to go minus a few bolts.

I think you misunderstood. They were pretty interested in my Evo since GT3s are a dime a dozen there but I had the unique car amongst the fleet of Porsches. Then again (if I can be the one to make a generalization now), people who do track days are generally more mature than the autoX crowd. I'd place it on higher cost of entry and no timing/competition. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

When I got out of school in the 70's 911's were fairly light, simple but high performance road cars that were expensive but "regular" enthusiasts could own one. PCA events at the time were diverse, with 911's, some ex race cars, 924's, 928's and a smattering of all sorts of other cars like 280Z's, Alfa Romeo roadsters, a VW Scirocco etc. etc.

As Porsche and the other German manufacturers moved into the luxury market, it became more of a status symbol. The growth of their product line to include SUV's and sedans was designed to capitalize on this.

I was somewhat seriously looking at buying one a year ago. But have three friends who are Porsche owners, and none of them are what you would call enthusiast drivers. The latest Porsches have extraordinary performance but the financial commitment to own one if you don't care about the snob appeal is pretty substantial unless you are really wealthy, really status conscious, or think leasing makes sense. Porsche has acknowledged the barrier to entry with 24 month leases.

In other words, I passed on the PCA event.

Thursday night around midnight I was able to register for the pca at devens on motorsportreg. Had several confirmation/event emails in the morning when i woke up.

I had wanted to go down to adsi this weekend with the rest of the common folk but unfortunately 100 miles each way vs maybe 20, and things to do sunday night ruled that out.

Will be taking the lolscion. From the sounds of it maybe I'll be assigned a spot in the outhouse row of the paddock with the rest of the peasants.

Yet you think and act like a patrician, for you have the freedom and choice to do as you wish. Good for you!

Today at ADSI was awesome! I managed to get a time of 1:32.1 which is pretty stinking fast. It wasn't the fastest time of the day which was around 1:28 and set by a non-street legal car, but close enough! Not bad for someone who just last fall got lost in the course and needed help finding my way out, eh?

Wet is smoother for sure, but a day in good weather like today was tons of fun. Sadly someone's ring lands popped the bed, his poor car suddenly belching smoke like crazy.

Fun, fun day, I could get hooked on this ADSI thing. Honestly the prospect of ADSI is better than a road course in many ways. You can totally overcook every corner there is, eat cones and not crash into anything as you probe your car's limits. Also fun is the social element, wonderful how the emphasis is on driving but not picking up cones. ***DISCLAIMER FOR THE THOUGHT POLICE***: I don't work for ADSI, I just enjoy it as much as the company of my spouse in all locations and capacities as well as eating good food. Loving, eating, driving, this fills my bill!

Hey, were you the nice person who sat with me a bit and whose ringlands busted? Well, 3rd gear was a great suggestion, it worked better and got me to 1:32 on the stock tires. I think you got ~1:28 or 1:29, but weren't you running slicks?

Anyway, if you need a motor build to recover from the ringland smoke-cloud, they say Wicked Innovation is the best Subaru mechanic in New England...

No, actually the thought police is some small minded, petit bourgeoise accusing me of working for ADSI for one of my posts recommending this HPDE in the past. Actually this is the first time I encounter this above poster, but he seems to be a very nice person that wouldn't go around falsely accusing people of being an ADSI employee or vendor.

Since that moment, despite my love for ADSI, I have to, in deference of his greater knowledge of forum ettiquette, defer to his or her greater authority, and I will forever and ever when mentioning ADSI.

I am too lazy to search, and I am too new to remember names, but when this other forum member PM's me or contacts me stating that any positive reference to ADSI will not be interpreted as a vendor conspiracy to devoid NASIOC of its deserved revenues by his account or anyone else, giving me such reassurrance in writing, I will cease my disclaimers regarding ADSI.

Better to be repetitive, boring and annoying than be ticketed for undeserved offenses. Those ticked off by repeated comments will likely be the same that would be the first to falsely accuse me of being an unregistered vendor. IMHO it's better to make things right, be safe than sorry etc and play by the book than risk fines or accusations.
