Quick question. Will the Autocross Calendar include all local AutoX? (CDC, NCC, SCCA and AI at least).

Thanks.

I won't be making the actual thread. If you want to take it on, feel free and I'll add it here in the sticky.

Any chance we could set up a meet in Northern Delaware? Would love to have one in the up coming spring or fall.

Best bet would be to try and get as many Subarus as possible to join in at one of the Brandywine Motorsport Auto-Cross events. (http://www.motorsportreg.com/calenda...adius=300&zip=)

Otherwise, I think Sound of Tri-State usually has a car show at some point in the summer. Most other events will be had in Ocean City, MD

We should have a Maryland Pennsylvania meet up. Southern PA has quite a lot of Scoobs running around. If anyone is in the areas of PA (York, Shrewsbury, Hanover, Lancaster, Delta, or Red Lion.) MD (Manchester, Jarretsville, Westminster, Cockeysville, Parkton or Whiteford.) So if we have anyone in or around those areas we should decide a date and have a meet up! Warm weather is coming!

I just picked up my Subie, so I'm looking for fellow owners to meet up with and cruise around as well. Let me know!

I'm in Littlestown, PA myself.

Mike, Thanks for this. I found the events and will be signing up. I noticed a 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX was signed up (for the Keene Elementary School on Aug. 16) any chance that is you or someone from the forum. Keene is right up the road from me, so I'll be swinging by (if not attempting the course).

I drive a stock 2009 Impreza 2.5i. Assuming they have a class for me.

thanks again.

Yeah, that's me. With any kind of autocross, you usually class yourself. Anyway, your car would be put in G-Stock. See you there.

Hey, thanks to Mike and Wes for posting up here.

Brandywine Motorsport Club hosts 6 autocross events and several TSD road rallies each year, in the northern Delaware area. We have 2 autocross events left this season, 8/16 at a small lot in Glasgow and 10/11 at the Monster Mile in Dover. More details can be found here: http://www.motorsportreg.com/calenda...otorsport+Club

You can see videos of our autocrosses at Keene Elementary, Glasgow HS, and last year's finale at Dover Speedway at our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC4u...Ebga8PYWMR6jRQ

We also have at least 1 TSD road rally left, on a 50+ mile scenic route around New Castle, Cecil, and Chester counties. That will be around Halloween, most likely.

We are very novice-friendly, so if you ever wanted to autocross or TSD rally, come give it a try. Email me at BMCautox-AT-gmail-DOT-com if you have any questions.

What is a TSD Road Rally like? Is that pure asphalt, or dirt and asphalt?

Not sure where to put this, but, I figured this would be a good place to start...

After a month of negotiations, I have approval to have a Cars and Coffee event at the Eagle Village in Fredericksburg, VA. The event is limited to the 2nd Saturday of every month, 7 a.m. until 9 a.m., from April until October. There is also a Fredericksburg Cars and Coffee FB page, for those who are just that inclined.

The first Eagle Village Fredericksburg Cars and Coffee will be on August 9.

Information about Eagle Village.

Information about Blackstone Coffee.

TSD is Time-Speed-Distance. It's a navigation contest rather than a speed contest, not like stage rally. Typically they are run in street cars on asphalt or sometimes graveled roads, usually rural roads on a scenic route.

You are given a set of route instructions and average speeds (below the legal speed limit) to maintain on each leg, and a series of checkpoints. The goal is to follow the instructions and hit the target time/speed as closely as possible. You are assessed points for arriving at the checkpoint early just the same as being late.

The trick is in the instructions. There is a set of General Instructions that give the basic rules and definitions to for the rally. There are also Route Instructions - but they're not simple like "Turn left on Parsons Road and drive 4.2 miles at 37mph before turning right on Johnsville Road." The route instructions may say something like "Start on main road - CAS 37 - continue to right turn 1.3 miles after bridge."

CAS is Commence Average Speed. Also, you have to remember the general instructions and their definitions to be able to interpret the route clues. In the GIs "main road" may be defined as the one that has line markings on it, and a "bridge" may be defined as any time the road passes over a ditch or culvert. So you really need to pay attention and think about the route instructions AND the general instructions to avoid getting off course. For instance, somewhere down the main road, there may be a right turn about a mile after an obvious bridge over a large creek... but the REAL right turn was before that, exactly 1.3 miles after the road went over a small drainage culvert that meets the definition of "bridge" as given in the GIs. So if the driver and navigator are not looking sharp, they miss the real turn and take the obvious (but wrong) one. That's called a trap. In a really good set of instructions, making the obvious wrong turn will lead you back onto the correct course, and you won't find the mistake until you reach the checkpoint way off time.

TSD rallies have a long history dating back to the sports car days of the '50s and '60s, though popularity is not what it was. It's honestly a lot more fun than I probably made it sound above. It's like a cruise on entertaining back roads and an interesting puzzle rolled into one. Also, there are differing levels of rally - often there are "tour" instructions that give the mileages and road names for each turn, as well as the more difficult version like I described above.

Come on out to one of our autocrosses. There are usually half a dozen Subarus, and a lot of other cool cars.
