I'm just wondering but has there been a track day out here? I went to the first track day in the San Fran area and they just had a second great day in Feb. I was wondering if everyone would be interested in trying to get together a track day at Second Creek or something. Anyways, if anyone is interested post here and maybe we can get the ball rolling.
-Brian P.S. The goal would be on track instruction rather than racing. Which is not to say that there would not be hot laps.

I too would be VERY interested. I like the idea of getting some behind the wheel instruction. Who would be doing the instruction?

things to think about.
Renting out the track would not be cheap! We'd need a fairly large group of people to do something like this. Another thing is the insurance to run something like this. Also, there are driving schools at 2nd Creek held by the SCCA but you must be in a REAL race car and have all safety equipment. if you're looking for hot laps join the MBCA. they run days out at 2nd Creek almost monthly durring the summer (you don't even have to own a Benz). All you can race for $85 the first time, $70 every time there after. Many times at these events there are VERY experienced drives available to "instruct" you. |

Doesn't 2nd Creek offer open test & tune to cars? I know on a bike it's $45 for a half-day at 2nd Creek when they're open and a regular event isn't scheduled (which is most days). It used to be the same at Mountain View (now Continental Divide), though I don't know the story since it's changed ownership.
There have usually been a handful of cars out there when I've gone on my bike, so I assume it's the same deal. BTW, one request, from a 2-wheeler: if you go to the track, please keep your wheels on the pavement, and if you do wander into the dirt, volunteer to get out there and clean up your mess. It's amazing how many car drivers don't think about the effect dirt and gravel on the racing line has on bikes! |

Bells, you're right. I totally forgot that they do hold open test and tune. If I remember correctly one of the open days is Wed. afternoons/evenings.

If instruction is what you want, a local school is Go4It Racing at http://www.go4itservices.com/
They come highly recommended by folks I have talked to. In fact, I think Eric and Joy know or know of the lead instructor/owner of the company. Click on the 'Track Courses' link. They also offer group classes and rates if we wanted to make this a group deal/meet. |

Yup, Mike Pettiford is the Go4It guy. I highly recommend that also. One of these days I'm going to get my motorcycle racing license from him...

So would you guys be interested in trying to arrange it so a group of us goes to 2nd Creek on the same day? It'd be cool for all of us to go down there some time. Also, does anyone know the minimum requirements for dropping in? I assume at Schnell 95 helmet is needed but anything else? When is a good day (apparently a wed) for everyone else?

I would definately take a day off for this. Regarding the requirements - I'm not too sure. I have a full face motorcycle helmet and that's it. I wonder if that would work...

depends on the price. I'd definitely do it though. If we can get a pretty good sized group of people to do it that would be awesome. I might have a friend (in a chipped A4) that might be interested if you guys let him tag along

For info about 2nd Creek, including phone number, look here:
http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/SecondCreek.html I think Wedneday evenings are "car nights" (no motorcycles, cars only; Thursday evenings are the opposite), but they are usually open weekdays, and many weekends, for open test & tune. Have fun out there. |
