Default my Ipad install 2011 wrx

After seeing another members install of their Ipad, I decided to tackle mine. Mounting ipad with single din radio behind in for all stereo functions.
I'm no professional by any means so don't flame me to much.
Ive done some fiberglass stuff in the past so I started with some fleece and wrapped a 2x4 and ipad

After working with the fleece for awhile it came apparent that I needed to redo in fiberglass mat. it was by far the best way to do it.

after cleaning up the fiberglass some

I then decided to add a finger slot to be able to pull the ipad out.

I then ordered some magnets off Ebay to attach to the top to hold Ipad in.
I dremeled hole and slid magnets in and refiberglassed them.

after some thought, I decided to take the finger slot out. It didn't look the greatest.
The Ipad for the most will not be taken out of care. Most radio functions can be done on steering wheel. After cleaning the fish tank one afternoon it hit me. one small suction cup and I can pull it out at will, if need be. suction cup is kept in glove box if needed and it looks ten times better. Here it if test fitted

I used some plastic weld to glue the fiberglass piece to the bezel, it worked awesome. After many coats of filler and sanding, we're at this point. Notice that a had to move the plastic bar just above the vents done also. it was trimmed shorter and glue it with same glue. In this picture the spots to the right of Ipad, are just reflections from meter on Ipad.

Here we are with a few coats of filler primer. Still a lot of sanding to do.

Ipad fitting like a glove

I will be painting in the next day or so. I'll keep you posted

How's the Vent functionality? If you set the heating too high up, does it affect the iPad or affect the fiberglass? And how much flow are you getting/losing out on, if applicable?

Awfully cool stuff. I'll be watching; keep it up!

How is the connectivity with the rest if the car? Steering wheel controls. How do you have it hooked up to interface with everything?

I will be putting in a alpine head unit with steering wheel controls. So volume and track up and down will still be done from there. The vents are still completely sealed, so heat still works. Not to worried about the heat on those vents because I mainly use floor and side vents. Thanks for the input

Really simple. The filler I used is a putty coat. I got it from oreillys. It sticks really well to the plastic. Bondo filler will not stick very well.

Decided to make a second one. Pretty much same thing except angling down toward radio. May sell one when I finish it

Very cool and great work! Curious about the finger slot. I didn't notice it in the finished pictures?
