Default Stock underseat sub wont sound

Asked the guy at CarToys if he thought the sub was blown, and he said he thought the stock amp was probably blown. Which doesn't quite make sense because I don't understand how the owner before me possible could've. But does anyone know how to trouble shoot to see if it'll work?

Have you checked the gain setting on the unit?

did you buy this recently and install it in your car?
was it in the car forever?
did it work for you before?
does it make any sound at all? even a turn on thump?
