Default Does UTEC sense knock?

Does UTEC sense knock and retard engine timing as a result of it?

P.S. How about the Link?

Wow the "search" is your friend.

There must be 50+ UTEC threads and I bet almost all of them mention something about knock detection.

Bill..Actually there 84! I found that out by doing a search on "utec".

Rallytuned... I saw something about this a couple days ago... unfortunately I can't remember which thread. Isn't it funny how people will take the time to tell you to do a search, but not take the time to help you? j/k

Actually I was wondering about this today... sort of. I know the UTEC will pull timing when it senses knock but does it REMEMBER that pulled timing value and store it when you shut the car off? Or does it simply only remember it while you car is powered on and then resets itself back to it's programmed numbers once the car is powered down?

I think in the past 2-3 weeks of having the UTEC it has only detected knock once with the CEL flashing effect. Funny I was nice and rich and my knocklink didn't pick it up [shrug].

Yes it detects knock. And it is programmed to pull timing when it detects knock. You can program knock threshold by rpm range, # of knock counts to consider a knock event, #degrees of timing correction per knock event, # of crank cycle to retard timg, and maximum # of retard. There are default values already programmed in for each of these.

There is no "memory" for knock correction. If you are getting knock at a particular load/rpm point, you must change something (less ignition advance, lower boost, more fuel, higher octane fuel) to eliminate it. The UTEC will run the programmed timing curve and will react to knock events. It is up to you to decide what to change and to change it.
