Doesn't seem that bad to me, but the real expensive part is the wear it puts on your tires. Just think, bandiemere is now $25 just to run the 1/4.

Unhappy

Well,

$60 for a day at the track is a good price, but you'll also cord a set of tires and run through a set of brake pads and a tank of gas too.

And, I would love to take my car to Bandimere for a few runs, but as long as they only do it on Wednesdays and on the same weekend as SCCA autocross, then I am out of luck...

Talking Test and Tune at Second Creek on Thurs

Hey, I am planning on going to the 'test and tune' at Second Creek tomorrow. It's 60 bucks for half the day, 100 for the full. I'm going to be there at about noon I think. If anyone else wants to meet there that would be cool. A helmet is pretty much all that is required. Anyways, take it easy. If you're interested and have questions you can try my cell phone at 303-249-3280.

Cord a set of tires and run through brake pads? Hmmm, I guess it depends on how you drive. I've done a half-day at Mountain View in my wrx wagon and by no means did I burn up either tires or pads. I wish I had, since I'm still running the stock pads and RE-92s, and could use an excuse to replace them for my wife. Obviously, with stock pads, you need to keep an eye on temperatures and give 'em a rest when they start to get really hot. I'm sure full-on 10/10ths lapping would demand shorter-lived tires and track-temp pads, but for a typical street-car track session, I think you're unlikely to use up pads and tires which are in good shape to begin with. (BTW, I got into the 1:23s at MV in my wagon, which didn't seem too bad compared to the 1:27s a Porsche C4, mounted with Pilots, was running at the same time).

Just make sure you torque those lugnuts; last Friday I was lapping at 2nd Creek on a bike and we saw one of the quattro club guys lose a wheel coming out of the house turn. Ouch.

Bells, how did you get track time at Mountain View? I've wanted to run out there for quite some time, but never knew who to contact. Can you please let me know? PM or e-mail me!!

Mountain View (actually, I think the name has been changed to Continental Divide or something like that since it was bought last year): 970-535-9999

The day I took my wrx out there, we were planning to ride bikes but the weather turned a little wet, and since I already had my car there, I figured why not. Of course, as soon as we packed up the bikes, and half the group left, it turned beautiful.

I'll warn you in advance, the folks at MV can be a bit strict about getting on the track (completed track school, etc.), and they are quite a bit more expensive than SC (I believe the regular car rate is $100/half-day, double what they charge bikes). It's definitely a fun track, though, with a lot more elevation changes than SC. Of course, the pavement is a _lot_ worse, too (though I guess that's less relevant to cars).

The BMW motorcycle club "DoD" rented Mountain View in 1996 for $100 a person x 30 people - for a high performance motorcycle riding school, which I attended with my highly modded Bandit 600 (bike and leathers long ago sold).

I got yelled at for pulling wheelies out of turn 6 while still leaned over, and for passing someone in the dragon slide. It wassss funnnnn even if I was naughty...

Their mail list address was dod@cs.boulder.colorado.edu but I don't know how you subscribe to ask them how to rent the track.
