Unhappy My i-clubbing days are numbered.....

So my boss just came to me to tell me he wants to see me tomorrow. He knows about my i-clubbing habits, and so far, he's been nice and let me be. He's not happy about it, but he let it go. He's always jump in and surprise me, catching me red handed but just joked about is, semi seriously.

Well, he was in a meeting looking over our performance, and told me that a lot of mistakes seem to be coming from ME!

*****!

So obviously my i-clubbing must be the culprit.

I dunno what he can do tho......but now I'm worried....I've taken it too far!

(ironic how I took time to post this, eh? )

What pisses me off about the internet useage monitoring is how it doesn't reflect how much people who don't use the internet goof off, whether talking on the phone, the cellphone, or talking to coworkers or just goofing off. If someone chooses to surf the web then it's a problem that is monitored, but if you go sit in the lounge half the day no one can catch you.

what has always bugged me are the people who take smoke breaks...everytime they do, seems like 4-6 times a day, they are outside for 10-20 minutes and that is somehow perfectly acceptable...i rarely take breaks other than for lunch or to get up and use the restroom

Yeah, I am sure he can. So can your own network admin. It would just take banning either your IP range from i-club, or have your network admin deny access to the i-club domain.

Same here. Internet abuse...or slackin' off is a personnel problem, not a technical problem. I'm pretty quick to squash any notion of monitoring peoples internet usage around here.

And there has been a lot of talk about it lately since some guy just got canned for looking at porn.

At my old company we used to have basically full internet access in the IS department. Well, our night shift guys got caught playing UT and QUake 3 online at night. So they started to watch more closely the internet activity. Well, i had the unfortunate incident of finding child pornography on a co-worker in our department's computer. No one liked the guy to begin with, but this was over the line. I turned him in. THe guy ended up getting fired, but before getting fired he called into question everyone elses internet usage in the department. SO, they began to monitor internet usage. It was determined that our whole helpdesk group was spending "too much time" on the internet. So they said no one can go to anything except work related sites. They then put everyone in our department on written warning. THey did not bother to address the internet access of any other department in the company. Fine, I thought. I got stuck working on Superbowl Sunday last year. I went to a news site that day, the local paper or something like that, to check the score and read the news. It came up on the report and they almost fired me for it. Well, fine, I thought. I'll ONLY go to strictly work-related websites from now on. We had a virus outbreak and it was my job to contain these outbreaks. So, I went to the antivirus websites to check out the virus. I also went to slashdot.org and geek.com to see what the spread of this thing was like. The geek.com site had an x-box add on it. That add almost cost me my job again. Finally, I told them to just turn off my internet access completely. It wasn't worth it to have it on my pc. THen anytime called to say a site was blocked or they couldn't get on the internet I would just say well, neither can I. I'm glad to be out of there though. THat company is going down in flames.

They should also monitor people who take 10 minute smoke breaks every half hour too!

Here's how to solve their worries about your i-clubbing:

Tell them you make mistakes because you are incompetent, not because you surf the net.

Mention to him how often we help you with your work in one way or another. we offer creative advice, we help you with your IT issues so you don't have to call the help desk, and we provide moral support so you don't tear your assclown co-workers new ones every time they goof off. Seems to me that if I remember correctly there are a couple people there you could point the finger at for being slackers. much more than even you
