Thumbs up The Denver meet was fun, thanks guys.... I bent the rental!

Hey everybody,

Thanks for turning out for the meet at Old Chicago's! It was great to meet everybody, the food & company were a great mix and it was definitely the highlight of my trip.

For those of you who didn't follow us out to the canyon road, you missed seeing me stuff the rental in a ditch. Haha, the Impala was made of pretty tough stuff, no damage except for a few scratches and lots of little rocks stuck between the tire and the rim. The car now rides happily on the donut.

I now know for certain that Chevy did not design the 2001 Impala to be driven sideways. Feeling the back end lift up about 3 feet when I bounced it off the rock wall was an enlightening experience though. We'll see what Hertz has to say when we take it back tomorrow.... haha!

I now know the truth of the old rally adage... everybody feels invincible until they smash it once, then they know the truth!

Special thanks to Tom and Bratmantlz for all their help. You guys are awesome.

Talk to you all later,

-Porter

Maybe this was a stroke of luck, Porter, but when I was heading back home up 46 I went by a state police car! Luckily I was traveling the speed limit and everything was ok. But... that's literally the first time I've ever seen a cop on that road.

Luckily we didn't make the trip as long as we wanted to... we'd be in jail! LOL

It was fun Porter... nice crash... I got see it from my rear view mirror. We'll do it again sometime!

Thanks,
Tom

Y'know, after I got separated form you guys leaving old c's, I did about 100 down us36 to catch you guys, but no luck. Oh well. It was still fun, you guys. You missed the punk in the fiat who went around the intersection I was at, and skipped the light just to piss me off. The final light before we took off, a cop was in the left turn lane, he was next to the cop, and I was next to him in the right lane. He kept looking at us both, sinking lower into his seat. 2 intersections later he dove off rather quickly. That was just part of the fun that night.

It was good meeting all of you. See ya'll on Sunday if the weather permits. I've been waiting for a whiplash joke involving me and the hostess .

I'm in the same boat as Gary is, except I gave up long before he did. It was fun meeting you guys , and if you come back to town let us know!!! BTW, what did Hurtz (I meant Hertz ) say??

Another note on convoys and drives- many other clubs around the country are acquring FRS radios just for this purpose. They are CHEAP and would have been great in a situation like this. Plus they would be fun to mess with at autocrosses too. Basically people would buy thier own, and it doesn't matter which brand as long as you were on the same freq and code.

So Porter, what happened with the rental car? I was just curious what they said in reference to your 'off'.

I told them "Uhh, we ran over a rock, and got a flat tire." They told me not to worry about it, that it happened all the time. The guy actually thought it was funny when I showed it to him. He was like, "Gee, I'm really sorry you had trouble. I hope your stay went well otherwise. Have a nice day!"

Muahahaha! Service with a smile!

I wonder what he would have said if I told him "Uhh, I drifted it at about 50 right off the road and into a rock embankment, bounced the rear of the car in the air, and got a big rock stuck between the sidewall and the rim!"
