Exclamation Watch those DIY intakes !

We just did some work on a MY00 2.5RS. The guy had a DIY cold air system on it. He had it run extremely low into the fender, right behind the vent next to the fog light. He said he had had it on there without checking for about 6 months (Its just too hard to get in there to check on it.) Well, long story short, it looked like the filter had been off the end of the pipe for at least a few months, the tube was full of dirt, grit, sand, and general crap. We unfastened it at the throttle body, and yes, the throttle body was also very full of the same materials. No telling how much goop he had sucked down the engine with that thing. Moral of the story, make sure you tighten down those clamps!

haha jerry i'd be amazed if it hasn't blown a head gasket from all the water it's injested. Something tells me that if you change the oil and everything you should have him sign a liability waiver to prevent you guys from being responsible for damage he's already done, and the possiblity it might not have any oil pressure when you get done(never seen it on an import but seen it plently of times on domestics). Abuse it abuse nothing more, and that is the most SEVERE form of abuse to a vehicle.

SCIC's own Mimpakt has a DIY CAI on his Mustang. We were on Palomar Mtn in the winter time, and he got stuck in a snow bank, and while backing out, he sucked up snow into the throttle body!

This warning applies to all cars!

come to think of it i just did a engine flush and oil change to an accord about 2 weeks ago, had bought the car at out dealer had their first free oil change done, had the second oil change done and then never changed it from 6200 miles until the day it came back to me a 32500 miles. when the customer was approched and asked why the vehicle still had our oil change sticker stating new service due @ 9200 MI or i think it was 2/00 and the original honda filter it was because she informed us she hadn't changed it since then. Well i reccomeded an engine flush and an oil change and no guarantee that the car would not burn oil. Did everything and checked it, sure enough it's starting to puff a lil bit of oil smoke. 26k miles on ONE oil change, i understand going 1-2k over but that far is just ABUSE!!! the lady's son even ratted her out, her dad had been telling her forever she needed to have it changed and to stop topping it off. Just remember people when you go to sell a vehicle people will ask for vehicle service records and this once $26k EX V-6 Leather Accord will be worth nothing when it can't pass the IM240 emissions test cause the converter is clogged with oil.
