Second Creek is just west of Denver International Airport.
It's a 1.7 mile road course with 10 turns (I think).
The cost for 1/2 day of track time is $60, however if 5 or more people show up from a group I think that you can get the prices lower.

I'm heading over there with some Audi people so we should be able to get the prices lower than that.

It's a really fun track.

Brian, you don't have to do anything to the car. Your car and safety is your own responsibility, use common sense (for the most part). Also, be prepared to walk away. I'm not saying something bad will happen, but it's something you have to keep in mind when doing hot laps on a road course.

Oh, Stacey...what time are you guys planning on going. Depending on how the weekend goes ($$$ wise) I wouldn't mind getting some seat time in.

Wow ! A public use track !!?
Tell me more.. does it have safe run-offs on turns, like an old airfield ? Or is it a real race-track, with barriers and things to run into ?
Thnx

Sorry all...I should have included more details in the original post. But I was just looking for interest…which there appears to be.

First off, here is some information on Second Creek. http://www.na-motorsports.com/Tracks/SecondCreek.html
There are directions to the track in there, as well as a map.

This is a true race track. They hold SCCA events here most of the time, but on certain days they open it up to the public.

The fee is $60 for any 4 hours or $100 for the whole day...but like I said we may (but I can't guarantee anything) be able to get that price reduced slightly.

I plan on getting there slightly before 9 am and running until about 1 pm.

Important things to remember:
1) You must have a helmet (motorcycle helmets are acceptable).
2) You must run with your windows down.
3) No passengers in the back seats.
4) Second Creek has no gas or air. So fill up your gas tank and properly inflate your tires prior to arriving at the track. I'd suggest inflating to 42 front and 40 rear, and adjust down from there.
5) Bring a box (I use a laundry basket) to put your stuff in. There's nothing worse than having a cd case go flying while you are on the track. I usually take just about everything except the spare out. Just safety i guess. It only takes a few minutes.
6) Properly torque down your wheels before coming to 72 ft/lbs. Or better yet, torque them between each session. If you don't have a torque wrench, someone at the track will...but make sure you do it before you go out. Two weeks ago a friend of ours lost a wheel while on the track.
7)Bring sunscreen and lots of water. You get very dehydrated while in the car.
8)Have fun!

Here is a list of tips to follow while going to the track from the Audi group. It's much more thorough than my list. http://www.audiworld.com/tech/misc9.shtml

Please let me know if you have any questions and I hope to meet many of you out there at about 9:00 am on Monday. I'll be the 2001 BRP coupe with dark tinted windows and 17" Prodrive 7's.

Regards,
Stacey

Hmm, that sounds like fun. I'm interested in heading out there. Hopefully nothing will come up. (Because lately something always does...[For me I mean] )

Yes, but as you begin to understand the limits of the car, and you start to push them, tires and brakes begin to wear.

This sounds like a LOT of fun, but I don't know if I'll be able to make it this Monday. Keep posting here for future dates, and I'll keep watching and maybe some day; I'll actually get to go to one of these things....

I went through half a tank of gas a corded a set of used BFG-R1's in just 50 laps out there! I also wore out a set of 9 month old brake pads. It was fun

Half a day will be sufficient unless you have race tires, otherwise you will ruin your street tires...

Let's keep in mind that the objective here isn't to go as fast as we can and wear out our tires and/or brakes.
The objective is to drive your car in a controlled environment using all of the track and to understand the potential of the car.

They were the BFG-R1's that Seth Frader-Thompson ran on his Jetta last year.

I got all 4 wheels and 6 tires for $150, corded ALL 4 tires that were on the wheels, then gave away the two extra tires and sold the wheels for $120 two weeks later to a VW giy since the offset was all wrong.
