Brat,

That blows man... really sorry to hear it.

Things kinda suck all over, but there are some signs the market may perk back up. I myself have been laid off twice in 12 months - sorta made me think I moved to the wrong place, since I left Atlanta to come work for Qwest in Colorado and then the F'ers lay me off.

Good luck, hope you find something soon,

JaMa

Apply for unemployment TODAY!

Start talking to the temp agencies and get started with them. More than half their jobs lead to full time employment and they have a profit motive to help you find work.

Hey Brian, I will check around MCI for something. But I think they are having a hiring freeze right now.

You should definitely apply for unemployment as soon as possible. That's why you pay taxes. If you need a lift there (wherever that is), let us know. Also, throw your resume on as many job sites as you can, like dice.com, monster.com, headhunter.net, jobtrak.com, computerjobs.com, etc.
Good luck man.

Oh, one other thing, I noticed that cheaptickets.com (on 30th St between Centennial and Garden of the Gods) has "Now Hiring" signs up in front. I'm not sure what they pay or what type of jobs they are offering, but at least it's something.

Andy

Hey JaMa! I too moved out here to be laid off by Qwest! Must be a common theme.

Dude, the job market out here frickin blows for the tech field right now. I was a moron when I blew off a contracting offer from IBM in March because I thought the contracting firm was dicking with me on the hourly rate. "X an hour? Oh yeah, we can totally do that." Later... "Well, it depends on how well you interview..." So I go to the interview. The guys start saying things like, "You'll like it when you start here." or "You'll really dig this project.." They give me a technical scenario and then ask me to figure out a problem. So I figure it out on my first try and the guys are staring at me and say "No one we've interviewed has answered that correctly much less on the first try." (Meanwhile in my head I hear a mix of "Muah hah hah hah!" and "Excellent")So interview is awesome. Then the contracting firm is like, "Well, they want you to start right away but now we can only offer you X-10" -10 a frickin hour! So I put my chin up and pumped my imaginary shotgun. (Standard negotiating technique in good economy) So I stick to my guns thinking that the company is just trying to take me for a ride. I eventually play hardball and tell them if they don't meet x-5 that I outie. Well, I was outie all right with a flowered shotgun barrel and soot on my face. Rolled up and smoked. (Standard result of aformentioned negotiating in bad economy) I've had no good leads since then and now I'm looking for some lame job to hold me over until this dang famine is over. The only good news is my stocks are doing well.
