Default Issue turning over...happened twice

I have a brand new 2014 Impreza 2.0. The day after I got the car, I had difficulty starting it. I had to hold the key back for about 4 seconds, and the car did not turn over. Then I tried again and the same thing happened. On the third try it turned over.

I took it to subaru and they couldn't find anything wrong. Today it happened again.

I'm wondering if anyone has run into this issue.

Thanks

Manual. Clutch was all the way in.

On the very first attempt I have let the key come back prematurely. Also I had disconnected the battery for a few minutes earlier.

But I did not disconnect the battery the first time this happened.

You unintentionally performed an ECU reset. This is normal. If it keeps happening, it's abnormal.

Is your car still doing this?

Thanks. The very first time it happened was the day after I bought the car and I hadn't touched under the good at all.

It hasn't happened since last Saturday.

Has this happened to you since?

My kid's 2014 Impreza 2.0 MT is doing exactly the same thing.

It hasn't happened to my car since the time I disconnected the battery. It was weird that the same thing happened under two different sets of circumstances. However, it has been 3,000 miles and a bit over a month since it happened last.

How many times has it happened to your son's car?

Has happened multiple times to daughter's new car in the last few days.
Unfortunately she's 6 states away and I can't lay hands on the car.
I read somewhere today about the immobilizer possibly causing this to happen. Told her to be absolutely sure the clutch is all the way in - her old Jetta didn't need the clutch engaged to start.
Had her switch to the valet key, but no change. She's telling me it sometimes takes a few minutes to get it started.

I have tried putting the clutch in only part way and it doesn't even click. This problem isn't a result of the clutch position. One thing I can think of is that you can't have your other keys hanging over the ignition key. You want the extra keys hanging down and touching the ignition key as little as possible. That's my one thought. Also I would only have a few keys on my keyring. Let me know if that helps

I have a MT 2014 impreza and have never had the problem. I will look out for it though.. Seems interesting that a couple of you have had this problem.

Could be clutch interlock switch or park/neutral switch. I don't know the wiring in the new Imprezas but that can cause what you guys are experiencing. Maybe just a loose connection in the starting system.
