It's ready except for the whole "one-off concept" part and the fact VW knows people aren't going to buy a $50K Golf.

I would put myself into debt for one.

Or, realistically, sell my TDI, and buy the Mk7 Golf R. Then mod after warranty....because according to NASIOC users, VW's fall apart before they're driven off the dealer lot.

Just like everyone who warned me not to buy a Ducati. Yep, piece of **** bike.

/sarcasm

You've been able to drive a VW off a dealer lot?

AMAZING!

Jamie (vortex) states this still isn't the upscale model we will be getting. It's supposed to be a RS model in between the R and this 400 model. Waiting....

CONFIRMED: VWís Burly-Ass, 395-hp Golf R 400 Concept Will Be Built! [2014 Beijing Auto Show]

VW premiered the Golf R 400 Concept at the Beijing auto show, and hereís why itís awesome: Powered by a 2.0-liter, turbocharged EA888 engine tweaked to produce 395 horsepower, it can reach 62 mph in 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph. Hereís why itís double awesome: Itís going to be built, the confirmation of which we received directly from VW research and development chief Heinz-Jakob Neusser.

Itís not yet clear if itís coming to the U.S., but weíd very possibly cut someone to make that happen. We also learned that the engine hasnít been changed much from the version rated at 290 horsepower in the U.S.-spec Golf R, having only received mild revisions in the interest of withstanding more boost. The basic engine architecture hasnít been altered. ďWe havenít reverted to cast iron and made it into an EA113 again. The EA888 can handle it,Ē another VW executive told us.

The engine could also migrate to Audi models, with one source telling us that ď[VW] wouldnít take this effort for just one brand.Ē Does this spell the end of the turbocharged inline-five that we expect to power the next-gen Audi RS3? Not likely. But the R 400 engine no doubt will serve as a kick in the pants to Audi engineers striving to make their EA113-based five-banger even better and more powerful.

Something evil this way comes....

Wow, that would be a simply epic car. I would happily take a standard mark7 golf R though. I think this thing will be a fairly brutal car.

VW will build it in limited production........wait for it..........EU only. That is my prognostication.

It would be nice to see it available in the U.S. I'd just be concerned on what premium it would have over the standard Golf R. Low $40's, nicely optioned is a win, close to $50k is a fail.

And I hope they release it here. SOA might as well lay out a red carpet to your local VW dealership.

Why the laughing face? It's just a confirmation (that ironically occurred on 4/20) of it making its way to production, but no confirmation of it being US-bound (which I'm already skeptical of, considering VW and Audi holding out on the US market for some of their cool overseas offerings like the current non-hybrid A3 Sportback, previous generation full-strength Golf R, previous generation RS3, etc.).

A 400hp AWD Golf on those R888s would be a hoot to drive.

I am trying to allow myself to seriously consider the R. I can't even fathom trying to buy a 400, but damn, what a great car this could be.

It will probably come over stateside in some version of the A3.

It's probably insane to think they will turn a profit if this car is anything over low $40's. Who will buy it? That doesn't mean that they won't do it though (insert link to Phaeton).
