Spun a rod bearing this am in my driveway. The car is stock. I moved two months ago and I can't locate my oil purchase receipts. I spent nearly the entire night awake searching. Anyone local who may be able to help a guy out before I call up the dealership?

What are you asking for? Someone else's oil purchase receipts? Because that's fraud, brother.

Just call up the dealer and bring it to them.

Yes. I just called them and told them what happened and that I can't find the receipts. They told me it really isn't an issue as they can tell by an internal inspection if the oil changes were performed. I'm not trying to defraud anyone, but I am very upset. This is my third wrx. My first two seen nearly 420k miles combined without any issue. Now that my '12 just turned the end of warranty clock I spin a bearing in my driveway. I am a single father and I do not have the funds to replace the motor. Payoff is $17500. Not a good day fellas

Irony: Noun: the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect

60,105 miles.
Yes the irony I know...
I usually am one to scold members for returning cars to stock for warranty repair after a failure and I'm quite vocal about it.

Then I flip out when I can't find my paperwork and post before calling the dealership. Yeah you got me good brother.

I'm hoping it was a pickup tube that failed because the car was not under any sort of load when it happened.

Tow truck coming soon...
Wish me luck!

Depending on how far out of warranty, be hopeful for a goodwill warranty claim.

FWIW, Subaru has taken care of me twice with two cars that were a few thousand miles out of warranty, one of which was a failed WRX gearbox in my (then) 2.5 RS.

Correction the mileage was 60,505. I just had checked the oil level Friday at noon and it was full. This car never burnt a drop of oil over the entire 7500 mile oci. I checked the oil this morning and it was about a CH lower than yesterday. I aslo forgot to mention I opened the filler cap to check for the tale tale sign of blown ringland and noticed some "milk" in the filler neck threads yet the dipstick was nice and clean. I'm thinking I may had a slight head gasket failure which may have lead to today's unfortunate event. The car was towed to the dealership and I am waiting now to hear back from them. Hopefully they will find a blown headgasket and come to the conclusion that was the failure mechanism. I did make a complaint after my first thousand miles that I thought it was consuming coolant and after being told by the service associate that consumption is normal (which is not accurate) I decided to not fight it but to make an official record of it. This was also about the same time it would have a hot start misfire which they said was a normal Subaru idle shake. Again after driving the **** out of two subaru's I knew that wasn't the normal lumpy bumpy idle. I was really considering trading this one in towards a 2016 wrx/sti once I pay this one off but honestly that will depend on how this mess unfolds. I had just purchased everything to go stage 2 just like I had done with my previous models but since half hasn't even been delivered yet I have returned those to the sender. I figured I had no reason to worry about my 3rd gen since it had survived its warranty period and these usually fail well below 30k miles if they are going to fail. I can't ever see trusting another ej on a stock tune let along an aggressive aftermarket tune/setup. I really hope this new motor in the new wrx is better than this. If this were my fault for extended high rpm high load pulls I wouldnt be upset. But that is def not the case here. I made sure to tell them I have personally refered three friends to that dealer and all three made a new car purchase. If they fix.it under goodwill that would keep me a customer for my next wrx purchase. And since I'm only just barely out of warranty one would think they would do this to keep a loyal customer who drives new customers into their shop. And considering this is my third vehicle.purchase and add on my referrals they have made tons of profit. Feel the love Subaru? Then please show a loyal customer here some love.

I can't believe it's taking this long without them informing you of any progress! I'd be the first to stomp over there and wave my arms around and inflict personal injury on myself until someone came to a conclusion.

Probably not the best way to get what you want, especially without receipts for oil changes and outside of warranty.

Where is the car right now? Do they have it and are just waiting for an agent to inspect it? I can only assume you've been calling every week but yea you are in a pretty "stuck between a rock and a hard place" type situation lol You have to be nice but at the same time you want your car back

This exactly... I dont be a thorn in their side as I know its a busy place.

Was told the heads and turbo were good but definately needs a shortblock. Oil was full and appeared normal besides the obvious bearing material. Had to authorize the tear down last week (which soa covered). Still waiting. I did find a few filter and oil receipts plus the service writer said it was full and in good condition. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

This is my first new wrx but the third one I have owned. My first two were great with zero problems over nearly 470k miles. I still have faith in the brand but we shall see.

I thought about asking if they would offer full trade in value. If so I would jump into a '15 since there WAS about $6k in equity in the car before this.

Never hurts to ask...but seeing as SOA covered the tear down I would THINK the rest is going to be covered. They haven't said you are at fault so its only a matter of time before they can get an inpector to go and approve the repairs once the motor is taken apart. I know this because it happened to me

Ok so just got word. Spun #1 bearing and it was not due to old or low oil. They couldn't give me a reason it failed as they stated the cams were perfect with no sign of damage. I forgot to ask about the oil pickup tube but will when I talk to them again. Subaru is footing the bill and I should have the car back next week. Now I need a few days to sleep and decompress

No clue as they stated they don't know. My money is on the oil pickup. If the heads are good and the car had oil (it was full) that would be my first place to look.
