Anybody here have knowledge regarding the following sub locations? Saving space in the trunk is desirable for me.

- 2 6.5" subs in the rear doors (from what I gather, the work to enclose them is hardly worth the effort for the result...?)
- A sub in the spare tire well with a speaker grill over the top.
- I doubt anything of worth can fit under a seat?
- And of course, a sub in the corner of the trunk - custom enclosure again though.

You have answered your own question and beside you have already asked the same question in the 2015 wrx speaker question thread.

a spot for a freespace sub behind the rear passengers head rest. Check the trunk you will see the opening in the metal.

In the rear deck? I looked there and saw nothing, no cutout.

location can be seen in the photo in the link below. From what I have been told the cutout in the trunk is there whether you get the HK system or not, they just don't cut the rear deck, but the metal is still void for a speaker.

Definitely no cutout. I removed the rear deck yesterday to sound deaden. Best picture I have (you can see the area between the two child seat brackets is completely solid):

It's a minor detail, but I'm curious how you connected your amplifier power cable to the factory battery terminal without modifying the plastic cover or the fuse block on the battery. Do you have other pics of your power connection?

The rear deck on my WRX base looks just like Jonnyfive's. No cutout, and no obvious knockout/outline for it, either.

For my 2015 WRX I am contemplating getting the HK audio from a stripped STi is there any way to get a picture of the deck from a Sti to see if it's even possible to cut out a mount for the HK sub?

I'm actually wondering how hard it would be to just make the rear deck sub cutout. My dremel came with a circle cutting tool/guide too...it wouldn't even need to be perfect as long as the sub fits and mounts. I did already sound deaden the area which is a minor pain though. Thoughts?

^ I'd just say i wouldnt do it. Think you'd be messing with the structural integrity of the vehicle.

What loads is the rear deck reacting? I can't think of what it would be compromising.

You may want to read/watch the press release materials which included a lot of details on the chassis structural changes. The rear deck does affect side to side forces as well as twisting forces.

I guess we'd have to see if the limited has a more beefed up rear deck compared to the other models, since those come with a cutout on the rear deck.

It will also matter what size hole you cut and where you cut it.

The H/K option car probably does have a different rear deck as the factory is not going to cut the hole on the line for the speaker. That would cost too much. It would be cheaper and easier to have the supplier stamp it and ship two different rear decks.

You could always add some reinforcement to the rear deck after you cut the hole.

I wouldn't suggest doing that as you will get better bass from putting a 10" sub in a box in the trunk than you would from putting a small free air sub in the rear deck.

Also, I personally am not a big fan of doing permanent changes to brand new vehicle that is still under warranty.

I have one of these from my previous car that I'm thinking of putting into my 2015:

Amazon.com : Kicker Hideaway Compact Powered Sub : Vehicle Subwoofer Systems : Car ElectronicsAmazon.com : Kicker Hideaway Compact Powered Sub : Vehicle Subwoofer Systems : Car Electronics

anyone else install one of these yet? Its not super powerful but 4x better than the factory sub option and has a small footprint that fits nicely under the passenger seat.

Thanks for the advice. I'm just very attracted to a sub option that has as minimal a space impact as possible.

Honestly, if your not looking for huge bass and are worried about space, an underseat sub works great from what I have read.

There is the Kenwood linked above.

A lot of guys have used this one and have had many positive reviews:

I'm planning to get this one for my hatchback. I haven't gotten a chance to hear it yet, so I can't comment on how well it sounds. It's only 6 inches deep, so it won't take up a lot of space in the trunk.

I too did not want to take up a lot of space and I also wanted it quickly removable. I went with a JL audio microsub, CP108LG-W3v3 and used D rings and straps to mount to the back seat. It takes up hardly any room and if I need the extra space (doubtful as it's that small) I can remove in less than 2 minutes.

Well if you say those Sound Ordnance subs have been getting great reviews, what about just getting two for under each seat?? Seems to be about the same pricepoint as the name brand subs.

It is something you can do. I had a Focus hatch before with the Sony system and the bass was adequate in that car, but it wasn't what I had with my Jeep with a 12W3.

I wanted closer to the 12W3 level and after talking to some people, I didn't feel the Sound Ordnance would deliver that, but would deliver what I had in the Focus.

Also, the Sound Ordnance is a powered sub where the JL sub I linked and the micro sub Seb linked do need an amp.

It all depends on the level of bass you are looking for. There are some places that have decent return policies, so you could always order one, try it out and return it if it isn't the level of bass you are looking for.
