Question Weird water pouring noise at startup! 97 Impreza Outback Sport

I have a '97 Impreza Outback Sport and have noticed a strange noise when I first drive off after starting the car. It sounds like water pouring or draining. I suspect that rain water is pooling somewhere under the hood maybe and it is pouring out as I drive away. Anyone experienced this? Or is it possibly the sound of coolant starting flow?

I have also found some evidence of a water under the back seat (when you flip it up). It appears that water is leaking somewhere from rain and running down the frame rails and sitting beneath the seat. Any ideas for where to check for leaks?

I had a 97 obs for 2 years and seem to remember the same sound and I've heard it in other cars. I think it has to do withthe A/C. have you been using it?

Though I have found no evidence of leaks, I also hear that noise regularly. I would think it's got something to do with the coolant as I only tend to hear it when the car is cold.

Check you A/C condensor drain hose. It's located on the passenger side firewall in the engine compartment close to the bottom of the car. If it gets clogged (with bugs, dirt, leaves, whatever) the water from you A/C gets trapped in the condenser unit in the dash, once it gets too full it overflows into the passenger side and usually ends up under the seat. The water you hear sloshing around is the same water you find in the car later.

The hose is black rubber, about 3/4" diameter and about 6" long. It points towards the ground.

that or your coolant is low and the noise you are hearing is the fluid moving back into the heater core.
