Default UTEK Stage 1: quick review

Received and installed my Turboxs UTEC today. I was running Turboxs stage 1 Unichip (intake mod, Scoobysport muffler, underdrive pulley) and replaced the Unichip with the UTEC. The aux boost controller provided with the UTEC is the same as came with the Unichip, so no need to change.

First reactions, driving at 5300', 30 degrees F:
- noticeably quicker than the Unichip setup. Immediate throttle response is better. Increased initial response most noticeable in 1st, 2nd 3rd. SUbsequent spool-up and torque build seems a bit faster, htough still not much below 3000 rpm. 4th and 5th gear highway acceleration 60-80 mph seems same or slightly better. Overall, not a big change, but definitely noticeable.
- VERY SMOOTH. No more hiccup/part throttle boost transition.
- Not even a flicker of CEL so far.
- Boost readings are slightly below what Unichip was delivering with same manual boost control setting. Hitting 16 psi in 4th and 5th. Think I'll just leave it there.

I chose to do the upgrade expecting only smoothness, improved knock sensing, peace of mind. I will am going to just "set and forget" it at Stage 1. The small increase in perfomance is a pleasant bonus. Well worth the upgrade. Now, I can't wait to get my up-pipe installed.

I just got mine today as well, i'm running a stage 2 with an uppipe and i couldn't be happier. I need to fool with the boost a bit but overall it's 10X better than the Unichip I had before. I had the hesitation issue and sold it a few months back. The Utec is smooth as can be and the power hits much earlier than without it, I'm building much more boost much earlier now. Anyone on the fence should go for it.-James

Just got mine and took it for a ride tonight.

Stage 2 map (turboback/catless, CAI).

Yeah, everything you said, superg. Did you notice any change to your timing? I didn't have the unichip prior to this, so maybe our impressions might not be the same.

Bottom line-fast as crapped butter.

I had my UTEC Stage 1 on for a week while I was waiting for some parts to arrive. I agree with everything above... it was very crisp, very strong, very consistent.

Then I installed Stage 4...

Feels like I'm being pushed along by a freight train.

Default UTEK install

Install is cake. Same as Unichip and you can reuse the old risers, etc if you care to. Actually easier than Unichip, as the angle-iron type bracket that was so difficult to install now is threaded so you don't have to fumble with a nut up underneath the dash.

I installed it during lunch break and it took 20 minutes max.

Like Paul said, Stage 1 is crisp, very strong, consistent. Stage 4 must be a blast!

thanks that makes me feel a lot better. I was getting worried that my name somehow was temporarily lost and got pushed to the end of the list or something. All is well now

Oh, shoot. I'm sorry. Absolutely.

It was about my bedtime when I wrote that.

Seems like I've been deployed everywhere across the country since then. Lost track of time.

How did I wait that long? ...But it was certainly worth it.
