Default Churbo's WRX Base

Traded my 13 STI in for this 15 WRX about a month ago. Main reason was to lower my car payment and still have a fun car. I got to admit though, I haven't missed my STI at all. I averaged over 34mpgs on a 1000 mile trip a week ago which is better than the gas mileage I have gotten in my 04 Accord. I won't be doing a bunch of mods due to warranty issues and lack of availability of parts right now.

Paid 25.6k for the car, car has STI short shifter, autodimming mirror w/homelink, all weather mats, and window tint.

Power Goals: A little more than stock, but that's what I always say

Suspension Goals: Stiff enough for some Auto X and spirited drives but not so stiff my wife bitches every time she rides in it.

Visual Goals: It already turns heads but I've always been an all go no show kinda guy but for this one I want to focus some on the visual upgrades.

Audio Goals: A little better than stock, got kids so no real reason to spend a bunch of money here.

Now that we have a game plan, lets talk about whats been done.

Dropped in my K&N from my STI and removed the milk jug. A little more whoosh now and no issues to report after 1600 miles.

Added my nameless catback off my 13 STI. It doesn't line up very well so a new one is on the way!

Debadged the Trunk

Blacked out the headlights but left the reflector behind the C light. A little trick for you guys that want to do this. Pull the C light and wrap tape around it but leave the tabs that snap in exposed (push them through the tape). Install the C light and paint the housing, once dry remove the c light and the tape. Also installed LEDs into the C light.

Plastidipped Side Mouldings

Traded some snow tires for a nice Pioneer deck.

STI Duracon Shift Knob

LED interior Lights

What's on tap:
Got some RokBlokz mudflaps that should be here today!
Ordered a HID conversion kit. (not sure if this will stay or not, depends on how it looks)

Thanks for looking.

Headlights look great! Are you going with another Nameless exhaust?

Yes, I loved the nameless on my STI and it sounds really nice on the WRX. It's just the muffler delete so you get great sound without the drone in the cabin.

It also leaves the option open of getting the midpipe and downpipe down the road. Worth every penny IMO.

Nice, I was always curious about the muffler delete. I was afraid it would be too loud! Can't wait to see yours

It's not loud to me at all. I've owned 2 evos with Turbobacks though so my definition of loud may be different than others. I had to wear headphones once on a long drive in my Evo X because the exhaust was just too much for so long.

Rokblokz arrived today. I've only ever used Rally Armor so this will be my first experience with them. First thought is they are very stiff and solid feeling. This can either be a good thing because it'll protect really well or a bad thing because they may break easier. Only time will tell.

Also I dropped the car off today to get the clear bra done. They are going to bring it all the way back past the hood scoop and do the backs of the mirrors. I was thinking about doing the rockers as well but that'd cost another $250. I'm thinking I'll get some of the stick on style and do the rockers myself from the beginning of the front door to just past the rear door. I'm only worried about people getting in and out, the RokBloks should do the rest.

Couple of updates.

Installed RokBlokz mudflaps. For install instrustions go here

Added LED C light bulbs. Cheap ones from Amazon but they look really good.

35 W Kensun HID kit 6k. Matches the C light perfect, slight blue tint but more white light. They are really bright as well, much better than stock. $35 on Amazon and installed really nice w/ all wiring and hardware hidden.

Did a little paintwork on the interior. Painted the trim around the shifter black. Going for the blacked out look.

Noticed a small clanking noise when going over some bumps and also when taking driveways at an angle. Figured out it was these guys, insulated and noise is gone with no affect to trunk operation.

Went to a local car show and got some pics of the car and my buddies STI.

These guys liked the rides.

This Mustang was sweet.

I wonder if it has traction problems....

Car looks good man. Black sure does look awesome when clean.

What would you say when comparing the 6 speed sti vs the 6 in your WRX?

1. Your opinion on looks is exactly that, an opinion. Personally, I really like the new look, and pretty much every previous generation WRX/STi. If you haven't noticed by now, every new gen. people complain about the same **** and then a year or so later everyone loves it. Don't **** up this guys thread with a **** post.

2. The new STi is the best performing STi yet. It's too bad they didn't put a new engine in it. Going by performance alone, seeing as looks are subjective, 11/13 sedan<14/15.

Churbo:

The car looks great, especially in black. That color is sick on the '15s. Also, really liking the headlights. Are you planning on getting a front lip? I think it would look great.

Well my STI was the standard six speed not the short shifter but it felt pretty solid and I never had any issue with it.

The WRX 6 speed is the STI short shifter version and it seems pretty sloppy for being a "short shifter". Its pretty notchy and at times can be tough to drive smooth. No issues when getting on it though, throws seem to hit their mark pretty good. I ordered the Perrin shifter bushing in hopes to clean it up a bit.

I'm sure once Kartboy, COBB, ect get their bushing and shifter kits, it'll be a nice upgrade.

To each his own.

Agreed. This happens almost ever time with a new body style. I remember when the Evo X first came out and I swore that I would never get rid of my VIII for it and a few months later, I had a X. It takes time to see them and get used to the new design.

Thanks for the compliments, black is a tough color to keep looking clean.

I do want to add a lip but I am holding off until I see what other options become available. The Subaru and HT Autos don't do it for me even though they do look nice, I'm hoping for something more aggressive.

I installed the Perrin shifter bushing the other day as well as the Nameless axleback w/ 3" non staggered tips. I'll be posting pics later on today.

Perrin bushing is a nice upgrade and worth the $25. I have the STI short shifter so it made it feel more like a short shifter.

I already had the nameless axleback but now I have one that fits right. The only difference I seen between the 11-14 to the 15 is the way the bend is where it mounts to the mid pipe.

How hard was it to pull apart the headlights and paint them black? Was the LED install plug and play or did you have to do some modification?

It is a little tricky to get the headlights apart. Once they are baked you have to put some effort into separating them and making sure the glue stays intact.

Not sure what you mean by the LEDs? The bulbs I got all plugged into the original sockets with no modification.

Nothing new to report. Trying to decide what I want to do next. Maybe you guys can help me out.

A rear sway bar: Eibach or Whiteline (can get this now)

Some wheels: Ideas, I have 2 wheels from my 13 STI but since they are 18s I'd have to find some new rubber. Stick with 17s and get some 8.5? Stretch the stocks out until they wear down then get something better?

Racing seats: Love the look of a few of the Recaros.

What other things would you guys consider?
