I never knew Subaru made 16" steelies.. They were not fitted standard on any cars from the factory right?

I believe the STi RA version did come with steelies - why? Just so they could roll them out of the factory!

All kidding aside, the RA's were stripped down ready-to-race-prep STi's. Subaru wisely "equiped" the RA's with certain "cheap" parts so that they would be replaced with more race-ready equipment (i.e. junk the 16's and put in 18" race wheels and tires).

Perhaps you're right - the C spec is the super-duper stripped down version, isn't it?

And as for why they don't bring them over here, well, because they don't and we can never buy them here. Who would buy them anyway? There's no market for them here in North America. People race "cheap" V8 cars because the parts and stuff are so readily available here. C'est la vie.

If you want one, go move to Japan like Necromancer!

Or to the UK / Europe!

I took a test drive in a STi v3 RA and godd damm was it fast. The gearing on those is unreal, but noisy though for normal day to day stuff. No noise protection in the bulkhead and various other weight saving attributes. That came with 16" alloys like the WRX and WRX STi's. It has a fart can on it though and smoked on startup so took a wide berth I went for a MY97 WRX Type3 instead

Gethin.

I'm told that those wheels used to be on every car when they were coming across the ocean and that those wheels got packaged for sale at the port where the alloy wheels were installed...
