Default UTEC stage 1 ?

My car is stock w/ the exception of the UTEC. how much boost can I run safely w/ the Utec? I am hitting just a tad over 15 psi now in 4th, then it settles down to about 15 flat. I do have the benefit of being able to run Sunoco 94. Should I feel safe to crank it up to 16 psi or 16.5 when it spikes and have it settle in at 16 flat in 4th and 5th?
BTW- Holy night and day diffrence just running the UTEC, where the car used to die off it now just keeps on pulling. Id highly reccomend this as a place to start.

Eli,

We're happy you're impressed.

I would stick to the boost levels you are running until we do more testing with "winter" gas. It looks like it's starting to trickle in now so we will double check all "stages" to make sure they are where they need to be tuning wise.

Thanks,
Phil

Hey Eli,

how do you like the utec stage 1? How is the low end of accleration affected? Did it decrease some of that turbo lag? Any problems with stage 1 so far?

I love it. The car definitely pulls harder in all gears. As far as the lag, it seems a little better, but that might just be in my head because it pulls so much harder now. I haven't had any problems w/ it at all. The only thing that has concerned me at all is that I have noticed the car leaning out quite a bit more than before when I have the cruise control on.

Same here!

TurboXS, thank you for this great product.
It really is a night-and-day difference from the stock ECU + AVC-R I was running previously. Boost surprisingly builds faster than before and it is hestitation free. It simply pulls so much more than before, especially from 3000 to 5500 rpms.

At first, I ran it in stock mode with the AVC-R still controlling the boost (peak 16 psi). The stock ECU was pulling timing or simply being inconsistent below 5500 rpms. I'd frequently would see advances of only 10 degrees (+- 5) below 5500 then it would ramp up only in the 6500 to 7000 range to roughly +28 degrees. That would explain that small kick I'd feel in my butt at that rpm

Now running the default Stage 1 map with the MBC set to 16 psi in 4th, it really is smooth on 94 octane gas. Timing is consistently more advanced (~8 to 15 degrees) from the onset of boost till 6500 rpm compared to the stock ECU. I have only logged one knock event when I was still running on my tank of 92 octane gas and none since switching to 94 when not hitting the rev limitter.

Yet, one thing I'm curious about is that I do log some knock events when I hit the rev limiter. I was hoping that triggering the rev limiter would not only stop fuel delivery, but also stop firing the coils. Will future revisions of the UTEC have this capability? I autocross and sometimes I do hit the rev limiter... I bet by killing the spark, it would avoid those knock events. Or am I just being a bit too paranoid?

Rick,
You are not getting actual knock when you hit the revlimiter, just a serious spike in the knock sensor signal from the sudden extra noise that the revlimiter causes.

In other words, don't worry about it.
