Default OK to take off top nut from strut while on car?

I'd imagine the compression from the weight of the car would be more than enough to compress, but want to verify before I do something stupid.

Getting crazy creaking from rear suspension after RCE install and want to throw a washer under the top nut.

yes.

as always, do your best to prevent the shaft from spinning with the nut, as it can damage strut piston seals.

Perfect, thanks a bunch. I plan on torquing it down with an impact wrench on the rear struts, not too tight obviously. Hopefully that should stop it from spinning too much

Ha, so you just take the top nut off and let the spring decompress while you raise the car if you need to swap springs? I never really thought about doing that.

Worked on a Benz a couple weeks ago and that was the only way to actually install the springs...

Two tire shops couldn't compress the spring down small enough and get it to align with the top hat.

I can scratch one car manufacturer off the list of cars to own.
