Thumbs up Driving Event at TWS Feb 24, 25

Texas Gang, Kevin seemed to be interested in this so I thought I'll pass this along.

I help out with the Driver's Edge events and wanted to make sure the Texas Subaru guys knew about it.

What is it? Track time. 2 days worth. 20 minute sessions on the road course, 3 to 4 sesions per day. F-U-N!!
In-car instructing, more seat time than you can stand.

I'm bringing my brand-new RS adn I can't wait! If you have questions- fire away or PM me.

I've driven at Texas World Speedway since '95 and love it.
I've never heard of this event...it's quite new...and pricey I might add. ($275 before 1/27/01 and $300 after and no refunds)

The usual two events at TWS are the Porsche Club event ($175) and the Texas World Speedway Motorsports Club ($225 I think)...

All the events are pretty much run the same,
you drive with an instructor in the green run group until you reach "solo" status which is just that...solo...whoo hooo!

Here's some advice that helped me years ago:
Listen to your instructor and drive exactly like he/she wants you too...EVEN THOUGH past instructors have showed you other techniques.
Different instructors will tell you different things...you go home and practice...come back and have a different instructor with a different way of driving...back to square one.
Just drive like your instructor wants you too and you'll achieve solo. It might take you 2 or 3 events to reach solo...which means 2 or 3 different instructors.

For example the event that I got solo...
First half of the event I was with my instructor...and even though I disagreed with him I drove his way...I got solo...first time I went out I used my own techniques and my lap times were 1 to 2 seconds faster.
I'll stop rambling..
Tre'

I've not run with PC or the Club, but many people have driven with the Driver's Edge and come back.

The reason TDE costs more is that there are less cars at the event meaning less cars on the track, more instructors per student and a wide-open track.

TDE events are very novice friendly as well. Even if you cannot run, come watch. You'll come drive the next event.

That's cool. Less cars on the track is a big bonus. I can't stand it when there's a buttload o' cars on the track and you can't pass unless your on the front straight..?!

Thumbs up

And they _do_ crack down on the fruits with high HP cars who don't let anyone pass... like a dragstrip on the front straight only to be caught by the more nimble, low HP cars by corner #3.

But it _is_ fun to hang off a 911 bumper with a 4 door thru the corners.

-btw- the 2001 schedule will be posted soon at the website!
