I just received my new process west tmic for my 2012 wrx, looks pretty good on the outside of the core, but on the inside it looks like the finish is flaking off, do you think this is safe to install? Or do you think the flaking finish will cause damage?

Have you spoken to Process West about it?

Honestly, it looks like somebody sprayed something through it and then stood it up on the intake. The fluid dribbled in three paths down to the lip where it collected together and then ate away some of the paint there.

That's what I was thinking as well, but it was sealed in it's factory packaging, unless it's something that process west may have sprayed in it before shipping.

I'm really bummed out, it was a complete headache getting this, really not looking forward to exchanging it, and having to pay 250$ customs fees again (joys of living in canada)

It might just be some type of solvent used to flush out the intercooler after assembly. I inadvertently got some carb cleaner on the edge of my PW TMIC, and it dissolved the silver paint right off. I wouldn't worry about it.
Just make sure there aren't any particles in it.

What they use to flush out the core was left behind and drained to that outlet. They missed that during the silver paint process. Paint cured and later flaked since it is not adhered to the intended substrate. Personnaly that should not pass a QC process that is appropriate for that TMICs pricepoint.
The fact that PW paints the entire TMIC exterior is my only gripe with their part. Painting them is dumb......
