Default Board Newbie... 1st post

Hi... Just joined up so I thought I would introduce myself.

I have owned a Celica 4wd turbo for about 10 years now and since they don't make em any more I was looking for a good replacement. Last year I bought my wife a Legacy wagon and the WRX had just come on the lot. It looked pretty good but I was still happy with the Celica but now I'm thinking I might like a new car that I can mod up a bit.

Has anyone in the Vancouver area had good luck with moding the WRX? Any idea what it would take to get one to 300hp?

Thanks and sorry if this has been rehashed a million times... I did try searching the pages but there was a lot of stuff from the US that didn't seem relevant.

theres lots of fast wrx's around town already

300hp would be pretty easily achieved with the right parts..

try searching in the factory forced induction forums. you can see ppls mod lists...

i ran 12.7 on stock injectors earlier in the year... after some fuel system upgrades and engine management im shooting for a high 11 next year. you dont need to spend a ton of money to make the car fast =)

Cool and thanks... I will spend some time looking there before I ask more silly questions.

Good luck with the 11's

Hey thanks for the great welcome!

I've done a bit of reading and you know what they say... a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. If it's true I'm pretty dangerous.... which brings me to my next stupid question which would take the form of "Is the STi coming to Canada?". Maybe there is a current thread about this someone could direct me to.

I was very disappointed when Toyota failed to bring over the ST205 (the last version of the Celica GT4) so a chance to get a new factory tuned WRX has me drooling. I'm sure you can relate hehehe. If not then I will get a "regular" WRX and mod it up myself (original plan).

Thanks again!

Welcome to I-club! How's your experience with the Celica Turbo? I thought about getting one before I bought my Impreza but I heard parts were expensive, etc. etc....

Hello and welcome,

a few little tips for happy i-clubing;
  • there are other forums outside of the vancouver one, go look around
  • Search before you ask
  • no pr0n
  • if you do post something stupid, you'll be flamed, but please come back. Some of us have a harsher sence of humour than others
  • watch out for OT, they'll rip you apart
  • Come out to some of the meets

hope you enjoy your time here.

The Celica is an awesome car with very predictable handling characteristics. It responds well to the application of power through a corner (well.. you should be on the power just before you hit the corner). The ST185 (last model available in Canada with turbo/4WD) is only 200hp stock and it weighs over 3300 lbs which is around 16.5 lbs/hp so it lacks a little in the raw power performance area. It is pretty easy to get it up to 250hp but as you heard it is not cheap and after market parts were really hard to find for the longest time. It is a lot easier to get stuff for it now than a few years ago. Any part you need from Toyota is really Bling Bling.

The interior is nice and comfortable...like a lexus.. it came stock with a 200W 10 speaker cd system so it sounds pretty good too. It can hold a ton of stuff but if you want to put people in the back seats you will have to cut their legs off first.

Mine is a '92 vintage with 127000 Kms on it and it hasn't given me any troubles... until now hehehe. The headgasket has a little leak and the suspension bushings are getting a little soft. I had to replace a radiator hose last week too. So it is at the point where I need to start spending cash to keep it sweet.

Our Legacy is a nice car so I thought the WRX would be a good replacement for the Celica. What do you think?

I would be interested in seeing how the two compare. The WRX has the edge on the Celica in technology (10years newer) and it has a better power to weight ratio. The only thing that hasn't sent me running to get the WRX is the possiblity of the STi and I really like the Celica... it's a classic

Thumbs up

I hope you keep the Celica. It's rare to find one nowadays, almost as rare as the elusive 323 GTX. It's a highly sought after car.
