(Long Post)
Hi guys! Well this may be a big or small problem, I'm not sure yet. I'm waiting for an email reply from UBC regarding this, but in the mean time I want to know if you guys have any experience or knowledge about transfer credits. I already checked with UBC and the 9 courses that I'm taking at UC first year add up to 27 UBC credits in total, 3 UBC credits each course. Now my plan is to transfer back to UBC second year and on their webpage, they 'expect' a total of 30 credits to transfer into second year, and if you have less than 24, they will look at your high school grades and look partially at your post secondary grades. To me this is kind of confusing. I'm in the middle between 30 and 24. Am I eligable to transfer? Some people tell me its ok that I have 27, some people tell me is not. What are your opinions, experience, or knowledge? Thanks in advance!! Edward btw, this the what they said on the UBC webpage: Students who are in good academic standing who wish to transfer from another university or from a university-transfer program at a regional college are expected to have completed the equivalent of 30 UBC credits of study before seeking admission to a second year program at UBC. Those with less than 24 credits will be evaluated on the basis of final secondary school grades and the partial post-secondary studies. A student with an unsatisfactory standing at another institution will not be accepted for transfer.

Hey, I've never posted here (don't even drive a subie
) but I think I can help you here.I transferrred into UBC 2nd Yr with 27 credits completed (and 6 more credits in progress). They gave me unconditional admission with 27 credits, so I suppose you can get in with 27 credits. Good luck with your application! |

I transferred into Faculty of Science.
This is my first semester at UBC, I applied in January and got my acceptance in early May. To clarify, I was taking 6 credits over summer, not while I am in UBC. Why I am taking 6 credits of courses? Cos I am a lazy bum that's why ![]() |

No, if I am not mistaken, they accepted me with 27 credits and did not take into account the 6 credits in progress, because I sent them the transcrript of those 6 credits after I got my acceptance letter.
Transferred from some private school with a GPA of 3.11. I have a friend who transferred in with 33 credits with a GPA of 2.8 into Arts at the same time. Off-Topic: Who is the White WRX in Fraser Parkade? I park next to you most days, I'm the white Protege5 ![]() There's a black one with STi fog light covers, that's a sweet car! |

My friend got transfered with his 27 credits last year. I transfered 42 credits from Langara, with GPA between 2.8 and 2.9, and was unconditional too. Mostly, people who have 27 credits or more with a GPA higher than 2.7 will get unconditional admission to UBC. My other friend had GPA less than 2.7 but with more than 48 credits got unconditional admission too. (He was transfered last year too) Someone told me that you need to subtract 0.33 GPA to transfer to SFU. But I am not too sure about that. Mike~~ |

I'm trying 2 transfer to ubc too, I checked the website for admission information but they only had info on normal admission and conditional, I couldnt find any info regarding unconditional for post-secondary institute transfers. Can anyone help me on that? maybe a link or something.
Mike, when you and your friends transfered with over 40 credits, where u guys transfering into 3rd year? I thought they had a limit on credits or something like that. |

HayzeE: Yea, as what placebo said, I was transfered as a second year student. The credits limit is 60 if i remember right.
-S-: Yes, I was transfered into the faculty of science. I think it may be easier to get into the general science first and then apply your major after getting in. placebo: Geez, 3.8 GPA can get into any department easily man. Mike~~ ps. I think if you apply UBC right now with GPA of 2.7 or higher and with 30+ credits, then you will be getting an unconditional admission for the coming fall or even summer semester. ![]() Hope this help~~ |

your best bet is to call advising (arts advising for arts faculty and science for science, etc...) and book an appointment to see a counselor...you dont need to be a student to talk to them...so yeah...that way you get your answer from the most credible source possible...i musta went in to see a counselor like 4 times over the summer to clear things up lol

Just attend class and you should be fine. If in doubt, ask your profs, they have spent their lives on a particular subject, if they cannot answer it, probably no one can. If you feel intimidated by your prof, just ask a TA, they were once in your position, they know how you feel.
Good luck, hope to see you in UBC next yr! |
