Default SDSEFI System, heard of it?

Planning a Turbo GC4 (2.2L Impreza)

Anywhoo...

Talked to a guy from www.ImprezaRS.com and he suggested using a system called SDSEFI which was designed by an Airplane company. It adds 2 additional injectors after the throttle body and controls them using a standalone computer.

In addition he told me to use a computer chip from Torquechip.com for fuel managment (instead of voltage clamp and FMU)

I am asking you guys because this seems to be some "out-of-the-norm" suggestions. Can anyone vouch for this guy?

Several years ago I used one of their early systems (EM-1) on a ported 13B rotary engine in a first generation RX7 that I set up with EFI. It was primarily a road course track car, but I did drive it to the track on the street.

It was very difficult to finally get all the tuning right on the money (cold start & idle, etc.), but it ran fast.

The tuning device is a small keypad that you can tune on the fly with. It worked well. I used mine on a pilot's legboard so I could adjust it while driving.

Turbo GC4 - I'm also thinking about using an extra injector controller to control the addition of fuel. Something like the power link 2000 or the SDSEFI EIC. For less than $500 (including the injectors) seems like a pretty good price. Also idle should be just like stock.

Gaspipe, he isn't talking about a programable ECU, he means the EIC injector controller. See www.ImprezaRS.com/sdsefi.htm

I am using it to make about 375hp and retain the stock ECU to run the 4 stock injectors. I can adjust the duty cycle of the extra injectors inside the car if the controller's using engine RPM and MAP to adjust fuel isn't to my liking (by watching EGT and A/F ratio).

I didn't want a programable ECU for the very reason you mentioned, difficulty tuning. This is like operating a toaster

Thanks to Larry's tips I picked up the EIC also. 2 injector controller is good for ~160hp of fueling.

Its easy to use. Doesn't wreck your idle/coldstart/air conditioning/ cruise.... the fact is it just works. I get good throttle response - a nice readout and two knobs.

A/F guage and EGT in view... no sweat. Tune in your favorite power station. Weather change... no problem bring it back in perfect tune with a small wrist flick.

Best part is off boost it drives completely stock. My supercharged suby says thanks. I would highly recommend this - combined with a J&S V2 tuning is easy and safe.

Yeah, what he said

Basically it is like having two ECU's - one for off boost and one for one boost.

Hmmmm interesting idea. Not quite as flexible as PEMS, but still very cool. Now only if the EIC was programable by map and rpm....

I wonder if SDSEFI would be interested in let ting us be able to program it somehow - right now it is preprogrammed for the duty cycle based on RPM and MAP, with only a threshhold for when it kicks in (-20 vacuum to +22 psi) and injector gain (like a volume knob) so you can increase or decrease fuel over the entire RPM band.

Hmmm...
