Nice choice Penphoe.

Oot, why are you going with Kumho vs. Hakka or other brands (toyo)? I need reasonable winter tires and if the Kumho's hold up in totem I just may get a set

I got my Toyo G-02 Observes and winter steelies from Johnny early this year... and a set of Toyo Spectrums last year. Good service, you can't go wrong with OK Tire on Marine!

Hey Ashton. The Hakka Qs run around $125 a piece compared to the Kuhmo KW11s at $70, or the KW15s at $90. The prices are of course before Bender gives me the WCRA/I-Club sweet deal

For the amount of snow events I will be running (checkpointing, not racing the Scooby), and for the amount of snow we get locally I cant justify the $150 - $220 difference for the set.

Cheapest Toyo I could find for winter was the Observe G-20 Plus which run around $115 a piece. If you have the budget, might as well go with the Hakkas for that little difference.

Doug

I must have pestered Johnny over the phone 3 or 4 times this morning. He's been most helpful and accomodating in the past. I'm guessing he's glad I'm finnally buying something rather than just using him for cheap service.

Can't wait to pick up my snows... I went with 195/65R15 Kumho 7400s for those of you that are curious.

Hey Bruno, thanks for giving me yet another option to consider.

I respect your ability to research products, so could you post why you went with the 7400s over the 15s or 11s?

Thanks.

That's an easy one: Because they are just as cheap, and I didn't have any luck finding KW11s or KW15s. Even these aren't really the size I wanted.

I've been lead to believe there are some serious supply problems with Kumho snow tires, due to labour disputes that took place in California ports. The backlog in the ports is still far from being cleared up.

I was starting to worry the only snow tires that I could find to fit my budget would be Wintermark Magna Grip HT from Walmart.

Thanks Doug I am really interested in how well the Kumho's stand up to snow and ice. And also how well they behave in vancouver during the "winter"

we should have a tire mini meet/ winter autoX.. perhaps up at seymour when they get snow!?

I am so there! Unfortunately, I betcha seymour will be busy and their parking lots full due to the people going up there to ski.

How about SFU and Burnaby Mountain?!?

KW15's - KGB (stock size), me (205/60/R15)
7400 - AllWheelDrift (his stock size - 195/65/R15) <-- I should have grapped that size!
KW11's - Ken (stock size)

Lotza Kumho snow tires running around this year! Who else is going to join the k-klub?

LaterZ!
Darren!!

I ended up going with KW11s in 205/60R15. As Bruno mentioned, the Yokohama snows are getting very tough to come by.

The KW11 was rated consumer choice this year, and with the addition of the labour disputes they are even harder to find.

Unfortunately OK sold out completely (due to awesome service no doubt) so I had to get the tires from another source. I will be visiting OK to get them installed.

Note - the KW11s are studdable, but you have to stud them before they are driven on.

How about joining in on one of the winter TSDs? I'm sure some of you are more capable than sliding in an open car park.

Yeah, I had the option of going with those, but wanted to stick with a narrower tire. Guess you'll be heading to Port Moody to pick them up?

You're probably right... What's the status on a winter RallyX?

My dad was kind enough to pick up my tires for me when he picked up his set. They are so busy that Johnny ended up working today, so we got his magic touch. I just have to give Johnny another big thanks for getting us a great deal even with the tires in such high demand.
