Question Cruise actuator but no cruise control!!

When I bought my 1995 1.8l Impreza L AWD last year, I noticed that it had a cruise control actuator on the firewall with the cable running to the throttle and it was connected to the harness... but I searched everywhere inside by the dash and couldn't find the cruise control buttons/switches.

Did Subaru install this without the buttons as an easy dealer hookup feature? Is mine a fluke? Are the buttons in some secret hiding place so that nobody knows you have cruise control?

I don't really care since I don't use it, but I just wanted to know the reasoning behind it.

Looks like someone went about installing the cruise control and never finished. I believe for 1995 the c.c was not a factory option, but sold as an add-on kit.

IIRC, the ONLY Impreza offered in North America from 1993-2001 was the 2.5RS

You sir are incorrect. The RS came out in late 1997/98 as a MY98 model. It did not have cruise control as a factory option. Only the MY00/01 RS's came with cruise control as a factory option (Old body style I'm talking about).

The Impreza came to North America starting in 1993 I believe. It came as a FWD or AWD 1.8l dinky econo-box designed to compete with the Civic and other economy-minded car. It did not do very well. In fact, it was a horrible selling vehicle.

Whether these early model Imprezas came with CC or not, I do not think so.

I bought my 99RS with cruise control as an option. Unfortunately, the whole thing had to be removed when I got turbo'ed.

Sorry to do this to you, but my 98 L came with cruise control from the factory.

All 1993-99 Imprezas were wired for c.c., and there were complete add-on c.c. kits sold as an OE accessory. Some are still available. What wasn't so clear to me, which models could have the c.c. from the factory. Among the early models, it likely was the rare '93-'94 LS.

I guess the previous owner was half way there, just didn't put the switches on the dash. Oh well, I thought it was strange. I can find the parts from some scrapyard leg/imp if I wanted to, but naaaa...

You've got three choices:
A) Dumpster Diving - go to a Subaru junkyard and yoink the missing CC pieces off of a donor car.
B) Talk to your friendly neighbourhood Subaru Dealership and pay retail for your parts.
C) Talk to the people @ http://www.subaruparts.com

Subaruparts.com was the first one I tried. They dont carry them anymore and were the ones who said they arnt being made any longer. Im guessing most dealers will say the same thing unless I get lucky to find one who has some sitting around.

I looked at some other 96 imprezas and mine dosent have the extra square 4 pin plug that to plug the curise into that they all did. I could only find 2.2 cars in the junk yard with cruise, no 1.8's with it on them.

I will keep looking, Ive emailed a few other sites and they are out of them now also. I would like to get a subaru one and not an aftermarket. Ill keep looking for a 1.8 with curise in the wrecking yards to see how they were hooked up.
