Default Shutting Down Shop, Get it while you can

Hey there locals. This is it. I'm down to a handful of parts, so if you want them before they hit e-bay, let me know. It's been fun, but I'm moving on to my first love of aviation. Got some planes being delivered around this time next year, and a new baby in about 6 weeks. You can see our website for what is left. Also for you local vendors that want a foot in the door to buy direct from Clutchmasters, drop me a line. They will only deal with one person that we both agree will do a good job. So far, we both have a local vendor in mind, but I haven't heard from them, so it's back up in the air. This is a golden opportunity to utilize the great financial relationship we have with clutchasters to get in direct with them. Good luck to all, and I can't wait to start throwing my opinions around the boards about the parts that are being sold, and stuff like that.

Best Luck to All,
Shawn Gilson

Just out of curiousity, were you guys struggling at all, or was it just time for a change. Just wondering what the performance industry is like these days.

Hey Ghomer. The answer isn't all that easy. We've been selling parts like crazy, but what happened isn't what should happen. If you deal with international business, you'll have your ups and downs in the trade industry. Instead of the vendors looking down the road, and maintaining a set price based on averages of the yen, or whatever value, they just sold as low as possible depending on the rate they could get. The vendors sell in huge volume, but people that may have been willing to pay more for parts get engulfed in this cheap part frenzy. When the yen was over 125yen to the dollar, we bought tons of yen, and only imported parts that were already ordered+15% of the total sold shipment. When the yen strengthened , we had a cushion of yen purchased cheap to fall back on if we were forced to sell parts cheap, or if were were in the hurt locker, cash in.
With the intro of the WRX, the customers changed......alot. The majority were whiners who read all the potential the car had in magazines, but don't seem to understand what overall high performance reliablilty is. They want a viper/corvette killer, but want the reliability of a Outback wagon. Hell, if you drive a viper the way most outbacks get driven, it will be bullet proof reliable, but if you drive it to it's potential you will get breakdowns. Granted the car has tons of potential, but be prepared for breakage when you drive aggressively with a 300hp turbo 4 cylinder.
Another reason is the nitch is gone. The parts are sold like bulk manufactured Civic parts. When the car first hit the shores, the Subaru buffs were drooling, but as those customers modded there car, we were left with customers that wanted to mod the car, but didn't really understand the car. More problems with the mainstream thinkers. Then we started having too many customers, and if someone had a part that broke, I'd send them a part before they would even send back the old part, and have to fight tooth and nail to get the old part back. It also got old. Because the car has lost its nitch, and everyone, customers and performance shops have jumped into the wagon. A 25000 dollar car, that with 10 grand can destroy almost anything stoplight to stoplight. However, because the car only costs what it does, it draws the budget buyer who expects budget cost parts, and viper killing performance. The airplanes we have on order cost alot of money, but it attracts a different kind of customer, and I understand the aviation industry, and what pilots expect for there money. The cheapest well equipped brand new airplane is $140,000, and once you start moving up into turbo charged 550 cubic inch six cylinders 6 seat airplanes, your getting up around $1,000,000. Different client, and one that expects the best, and will pay for it. Hope that answers your question.

I'm shipping off the inventory list that you requested pure epi.

Sorry to see you exit the game. On the up side, there is a HUGE crossover of Subaru and aviation. The EA and EJ engines are very popular in kit and experemental aircraft. Try a Pitts special with a supercharged EG33 (SVX motor) on for size.

Heyyyyyyyyyyyyy. It's Scott! Long time since we talked. Yes, The Subaru engine is huge in the experimental ac industry, but I can't quite do what I want with experimentals. Right now, we are trying to make 3 of the local airfields prosper again, and get modern technology out into the ga industry. I'm working on my own business, but helping with flight schools, aircraft maint, and avionics maint.

Once we have this company up and running, if you don't have a pilots license, you'll want one, or if you have trips of less than 700 miles, you won't be able to beat the charter service we'll be offering.

My dad has had his CFI siince before I was born. So I grew up around 182s and 172s. One of my earliest memories is sitting on a booster seat at the controls of 33QA.

Sorry to see you go, One question about the clucht, Does it fits only 2 L Turbo motors? I have a 1.6 L FWD impreza 1998, I need a new clucht, but canīt find somebody that knows if system for the 2.5 or other imprezas will fit my car, What do you think? do all imprezas use the same type of clucht?
Thanks for your answer
