westy66 - the VF23 would be the one we'd recommend out of the two. The VF23 is basically like a faster spooling VF22, but has less top end then the VF22. The 30 is ok, however non-BB.

Choose the turbo that suits 75-90% of your driving. Peak power is nothing unless you have the opportunity to use it.

if you want more top end I would get the VF30, of the two turbos. the VF23, from what I've read, is a great daily driver / auto-x turbo, but the VF30 has better top end power. if you are looking for the most top end, I would get a VF22.

westy66 - hmmm if you want more up top and want awesome drivability, you should check out the iON OE upgrade. Sounds like what you're looking for, not to mention it looks stock

VF23 gets my vote. Very good turbo for the street. Tons of fun for around town! Check the classifieds, there are a couple VF23's for sale.

I have a VF23... and it was good... for about 8K miles of normal driving. Then it decided to start puking oil into the intake. Spy Hunter and James Bond never had smokescreens this good

My turbo is now at Turbo Specialties, with an estimated repair bill of $550. Mine is not the only VF23 that they've serviced, and they (Reed, the shop owner) tell me that the VF30 is a much more trouble-free unit (none coming back for repairs).

If I had to do it all over again, I would've gotten a VF30, or something not made by IHI altogether ("they make disposable turbos" ).

...or you could PM me about buying my rebuilt, better-than-new, guaranteed VF23 once they're done with it
