Question Can I take one of my three Cat Convert?

WRX are fitted with 3 cat converters to pass aircare.

Can i free up extra ponies if i took one away, and still be safe for my car? :eek

It'll be illegal if that's what you're asking.

I don't know if it's legal or not, but as long as you put it back for airscare, I don't think you will have a problem

FYI: for the 2 years before I sold my old car, I went in with just a test pipe.

Most of the techs there don't know the difference between a cat and a test pipe. It's actually quite sad.

u have to think of a good way before u start...

i got no cat on my Civic...and yeah it's fast...gas pedal is lighter and rev up faster...yet i don't think that test "pipe" (or fake cat) on my car will make me pass air care? i put it onto the machine and damn...it's running rich!!! yet my CE doesn't come on even the cat is missing...

i grounded the 2nd O2 sensor...

i gotta put back my stock one before i go to air care...

yet i believe even my car runs w/o cat...it still runs way better than those 10 years old car...some *****ty old car can runs 10 times from the max...while i am now probably double of it?

but it's illegal...i heard u can get a $575 or $800 ticket? it can be towed right the way to Honda dealer for inspection and *****...

well...i better put my cat back on!!!

btw, the cat is heavier than the "test pipe"...a good way to light weight the car too...

but back to the WRX...i think one out shouldn't be too bad but CE is a problem as once it comes on...ur car will actually be limited by the ECU and it will become slower!!! it's only u who feels its faster!!!

but the exhaust noise is so sweet...right Orwin?

Thumbs up

If I had a WRX here like I do in the UK I would get rid of the cats...no questions.

Makes such a huge difference to the torque curve of the car.

And if you are worried about the environment, check this out from an EPA study (let alone the stuff huge corporations pump into the environment):-

WASHINGTON -- The catalytic converter, an invention that has sharply reduced smog from cars, has now become a significant and growing cause of global warming, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Hailed as a miracle by Detroit automakers even today, catalytic converters have been reducing smog for 20 years. The converters break down compounds of nitrogen and oxygen from car exhaust that can combine with hydrocarbons, also from cars, and be cooked by sunlight into smog.

But researchers have suspected for years that the converters sometimes rearrange the nitrogen-oxygen compounds to form nitrous oxide, known as laughing gas. And nitrous oxide is a potent greenhouse gas, more than 300 times more potent than carbon dioxide, the most common of the gases, that is warming the atmosphere, according to experts.

whats a test pipe? one of those fake cat converters?? cuz I know they make those pipings that LOOK like a cat but its just a straightpipe...hehe...sneaky sneaky..cuz they dun really do anything but the LOOKING test to see if the cats are there...but yeah...just put it back on when you go in for aircare once every 2 years...it only costs at the MOST 50 bux to swap one for the other..so a total of like 10 bux every 2 years..not that bad

If you take out the cats, yes you will make power on your WRX. Is it safe? Safe for what? Your car? Yes. The car will run ok, you'll just have to deal with the CE light being on. Safe for the environment? Heck NO. Safe for the driver behind you? Heck NO as well. You ever drive behind a catless car? My goodness its horrible.

all i know about cars is that they rearrange nitrogen and sulfur gasses into less harmful form. well thats what its suppose to do anyways. if you feel the need to remove it, go for it.
