Friend and I were working on his WRX, adding the Stoptech big brake kit, and I made the mistake of letting him do some of the work himself...he ignored the torque wrench and kept going, snapping off a banjo bolt in one of his nice new calipers. I tried to vise grip out the stub, but it is in there hard. Any ideas? Thanks.

i've never used an easy-out but from what i hear they're kind of brittle. for speed bleeders it's recommended you drill a hole, then lightly hammer in an allen key in the middle and try to twist it out, if it strips, go up a size drill bit and allen key.

I'm nervous about putting a drill into this bolt as chips could easily fall into the caliper, causing some problem. I will look into this easy out thing.

banjo bolt Ive seen already has a hole through it. Did it break off low enough to get to the hole in the bolt? If so an easy out (or bolt extractor) is the way to go. It is agressively reverse threaded so it tightens into the bolt counterclockwise and tries to break the blot shaft loose. Of course, there shouldnt be much resistance to the bolt shaft coming back out anyway as I assume it was recently loose and not seized in place.
On a side note, invest in a torque wrench. HTH ss |
