Default Need your help with my master cylinder swap

Some of you, may or may not know the entire saga I've been goin through, but to sum it up, I've done brake swap from WRX up front & turbo legacy in the rear. I increased the volume demands in the brake system, and am getting too much pedal travel.

To fix it I found that upgrading to a 1 1/16" MC would probalby solve my problems.

Here's the link to the longer, in-depth thread http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hreadid=256730

Anyway.....down to my problem. I got a MC from a 90 Legacy wagon w/ ABS. It had the larger bore MC.

However in inspecting the MC closer I discovered that the ABS MC does not have four lines for the brake lines. It only has two, which go to the ABS module & then split off to the four wheels.

So my question is....those of you that have done the single stage booster swap & swapped the MC as well.....did you run into any problems like this.....or do the later model MC's have 4 outlets......or does the 1.8 impreza have ABS?

What I need is a MC that has 1 1/16" bore & has four brake line outlets.

If you can check out your car....and see if it has 1 1/16" MC & has four brake lines comin out of the MC.

Here are some pics, which show where the size stamp is on the MC, and where the bottom brake line outlets should be, but are not....

If you guys can help me out I'd appreciate it big time as this is my last resort to fix this freakin brake problems.

Thanks in advance.

Josh

Default 1.8 impreza

yos. i gots a 1.8L FWD with no abs. it says 15/16, and its got 2 post thingys with 2 brake lines coming out of each. so 4 lines altogeather. my car has hill-holder, so that may pose an issue for you bc the lines go from MC to hillholder solinoid (connetect by cable to clutch lever)

mab, mab not.

im running 11.4" STI 4 piston front with 10.5" 98 outback rear (bigger than WRX)

my brake feel is quite quite good.

Thanks supermoose for the info. How is your pedal travel? Did you notice an increase in the amount the pedal travels after doing your brake swap? That's what I'm trying to get rid of.....the large dead travel in the pedal.

Anyone else.....I'd like some more info from other cars as well.....it's not like I'm asking a lot. Just look at your MC, tell me what number it says, and whether there is four lines or two lines coming out of it. Not very difficult......

Default --

my car came stock with tiny 9.5" 1 pots in the front, and drums in the rear. the fronts first got ditched for 10.7" 2 pot RS brakes. that felt REALLY stiff. pedal travel was minimal b4 grabbing, then the rear awd subframe conversion happened with teh 10.5" outback discs, that felt not bad, but not nearly as solid as the drums in the back. pedal travel increased. then the 4 pot fronts were fitted, and pedal travel decreased again. it feels quite good, i dont think as little pedal travel as the 10.7 f / drum rear, but its got a bunch more modulation bc the rotor in the front is so big and the caliper is massive. ive driven the WRX front brake setup in several cars, and i would guess that it needs less fluid than my 4 pot front, with my 93L master cylinder, it would probbly have quite decent feel and not that much travel.ar

Glad to see everyone soooooo helpful

Maybe i should've made the title....what rim should I get......or possibly.....my brakes are broken.....

sheesh.....all I was asking was to pop your hood.....open hood.....move hood support from clip into hood......bend over....look at MC.....see if there's pretty little writing with numbers on it......and count the number of lines comin out.....1......2......3.....4.......can we count to 4 boys & girls........

Whatever....I'll find out the information myself

BTW....Thank you to those that ACTUALLY did help out.
