South Texas weather doesn't get much much below 35 degrees or much over 100. How much variance do we really need in our oil? If I understand correctly. Motor oil is like Cold medicine. If all you have is a runny nose, don't get the medicine that covers runny nose, sneezing, couching, the runs, ear drainage, and in-grown toenail. Get the one for runny nose only.
That said, would 10w-30 be a better choice of synthetic? What do you think.

I run 5W30 regular in my UrQuattro. nothing special there. 10W is a bit thick on cold startup and I suspect not good for the turbo bearings for the first few minutes.
In my rally car, I run 0W30 Mobil 1. 0 weight is just better on the tighter tolerances and race cam when the engine is cold. I also like the idea of high flowing cold oil for my turbo immediately upon startup. This oil goes to 30 weight once hot. As always change often and allow your turbo to cool off after a hot run. Don't want to cook off the oil in the carriage leaving sludge. |
