Heeelllloooooooo Bay Area
![]() I just moved from Boston, so I'm a NESIC convert ![]() Whats going on? I see there is a meeting tonight, i'll try to make it and meet some of you... That would be nice... Look for my dirty silver rex... (i'll try to wash it today though. Must get the Nebraska stench off of it....) I drove from boston to san jose... Made it in 3 days... Well basically, I'd like to get some oppinions on where I should look for a place. I'll be working on Montague Expwy (right by 880), on the border of milpitas and san jose. I'm kind of gettting mixed reactions from relatives and the few people from work. The ppl from work suggest to live in like mountainview, or sunnyvale or something. How's the traffic on 101/237 going east in the morning?? My relatives/friends suggest to live right near work (which means milpitas). I found a nice place (on Dixon Landing), but its right on 880 and I heard that 880 south in the morning is horrible (although this place is only 5mi from work). I dunno what to do. I'm 22 years old and need a nice place with pool/fitness room, all that s#%t. But i'd like to be close to places to go out without driving for like 45 mins or so.. Well, i'll stop my rambling. Thanks a lot in advance for the help.. And its good to be here and know there's a club right near by Makes me feel more at home...See ya.. --Dima

personally, i wouldn't live in milpitas by dixon landing... it stinks (literally) it smells so bad during the summer time, everytime i pass by the city on 880 i have to close the window and turn on my ac... sunnyvale, mountain views are nice quiet city... or if you want to pay cheap rent like me, live in fremont and commute... but the traffic on 880 isn't very friendly...

If you have already found a place near Dixon Landing, thats pretty good because its very close to your work. Altho early morning commute will be PITA no matter what, but it still beats a lot of ppl like me commute from oakland to san jose.
There are some apt/condo type of deals right on Montague Expwy and Riveroaks Pkwy. I heard its got a gym and swimming pool, You might want to check that out if you haven't. Welcome to the Bay Area and Good luck! See you at the meets someday! Cal |

Just remember, you don't always have to travel 880. There are surface streets you can take, and if you are near Dixon Landing, you could always go up and take 680 and exit on Landess/Montague. You will be working right near me. I work in between Capitol and Trade Zone. Actually on Capitol. See that structure going over Montague. That's my company building that. But I live with my parents so I don't pay rent. But I could provide some relief with traffic.

Try South Fremont, and milpitas HOWEVER, EAST!
East milpitas or fremont is good, since 680 is right there, and 680 from south fremont down to SJ is at hwy speeds nearly 90% of the time... 880 sucks, and west miliptas stinks, literally... so east milpitas and south fremont, east fremont, with reletively close proximity to 680 is your best bet dude! AND COME TONIGHT TO UCKK... Lets see, we got Dan (brucelee) with the busted "rally" car, he might come, not sure and Alex FKAI might come, and we usually get about 20 folks every week. It's a great time to hang out... BRING A JACKET TOO! -Gagan |

How's this place?
Or this place? http://www.springstreet.com/ext/207173 Or, http://www.springstreet.com/ext/40668 As far as location goes... I'm gonna go drive there and check them out. The first one doesnt do month to month, and a 7 month lease is a bit more than i want to commit to right now... not knowing the area and all. And I'll also check out a few complexes in the MV and sunnyvale area.... I'd just like to be able to have a decent morning commute.. It'd be nice to have places to go near by... but if it means that commute is cut by 20-30 minutes, i can drive to go out ![]() --Dima Last edited by heat; 11-19-2002 at 03:58 PM. |

If you can afford it, living in Milpitas is good. Traffic will suck, but south of Dixon Landing isn't so bad. 880 is REALLY bad between Auto Mall and Dixon Landing and South of Montague.
I take 880 every day from just north of the San Mateo bridge and work in downtown Milpitas (essentially at Milpitas Blvd and Calaveras) so I am quite familiar with the traffic patterns in the area you're discussing. I wouldn't imagine your commute would take more than 20 minutes or so even on a bad day give you'd only be a few miles from work. Oh yeah, that complex you're looking at near 880 at Dixon Landing is right across the freeway from a dump, and is also very near a set of train tracks that carry car parts to the New United Motors plant and Toyotas from it. So commute will be okay, but whether you can stand ther rest? For reference, my commute straight down 880 is about 45 minutes to an hour. To get to Montague off 880 wouldn't take much longer maybe 10-15 minutes, depending on which side of the freeway it's on. I take a few shortcuts and head over to 680 at Mission or take surface streets from South Fremont. That's getting to work around 10, add another 15 minutes or so if you need to be in at 8. |

If you can stay in Milpitas and work in Milpitas you will not have a traffic problem, but commuting to Milpitas SUCKS! They also have the "Milpitas Health Center" which has all the workout and pool equipment you could need...almost free, drop-in is $2. The place was just remodeled about a year ago.
