Default Man, I thought I was screwed...

So I justpicked up a set of the Kartboy shifter bushings because I was sick of having my shifter feel like it was seated in bubblegum. In the process of installing them, I was having a hard time getting the 2nd bushing to seat so I tried to get the bolt to catch and use that to press it on. To make a long story short I thought i stripped the stud for about 5 minutes and started thinking about how much of a PITA it was going to be to get that stud rethreaded. Anyhow, that ended up working out and I got the bushings installed.

So, I go out for a drive to test things out and it feels great. Until I try to go into 3rd gear. It refuses to go in. So I go to 4th and then back to 3rd and it goes in fine. I can't get it to shift from 2nd to 3rd at all without going through a whole routine. So I figure out 5th won't go in either. With all the banter on here about tranny problems I thought that I had uncovered some flaw in my transmission. And since my car is already in such bad shape no dealer in his might mind would do any warrantee work on it.

I started seeing $5000 repair bills flash before my eyes and I yelled ":monkey:" at the top of my lungs while banging the shifter back and forth about as hard as I could.

I started to drive back to my house and low and behold, it started to work PERFECTLY!!! I guess it just needed to be seated a little better or something. Talk about a feeling of relief. I thought I was going to be scoobyless and my heart sank. Sorry for the long story, just needed to vent I guess.

I bet you put that little retainer plate that holds the bushings in backwards. The protrusion should angle out towards the nut, otherwise it interferes with the shift pattern.

How could you possibly make such a dumb mistake???

I did this on my wife's wagon and thought I had totally messed up the tranny!!!!!

yeah i was pretty freaked out too. i did get it to work with the protrusion facing inward though. all you have to do is yell :monkey: about as loud as you can and jam the shifter to the left and right REAL hard and it just lines up.

EDIT: Or maybe I just whacked it so hard that it broke off.

and no i don't have the shortshifter yet. i just went with the bushings because the shifter felt so loose.

plus i am a cheap bastard. i'm gonna head over to dreamlot some time in the near future to switch out that rear strut if any one's interested

Yeah, I know!! I went there before I did the install. It said nothing about possible shifting problems after the install. Maybe they should update their page.

Great product nonetheless. It considerably improved the feel of my shifter.
