Question Buying a used part and insurance...

I have a question about buying a used part off of someone privately. If my car was in an accident and that part became damaged, will that part be covered by ICBC?

My situation is this. I have an opportunity to buy an STi exhaust off of someone from the UK. It was an original part off of a P1 so obviously the person does not have a separate receipt for it (not unless he "makes" me one). So would ICBC cover the cost of the exhaust if the car was wrecked?

A letter of some sort signed by the seller/buyer should hold some ground, shouldn't it? I know gov't sites are so boring and lacking in good layouts but do a quick search from ICBC's site.

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy one from SPD, unless you're getting a super good deal from the UK.

Email Don Nimi...he works for ICBC...actually I recall there being a discussion on this topic before.

And to be honest, I wouldn't worry about the exhaust being stolen. Firstly, if thieves really want the exhaust that bad and are willing to get under the car and unbolt the bloody thing then I say give it to them. Secondly, how many yahoos in Vancouver know what STi is? Let alone a P1 exhaust?

I'm more concerned with an accident - i.e. I get rearended and the muffler gets crushed -- does ICBC replace it with another STi, or do I get what I paid for it, or does it get replaced with a stock one?

Oh well, the guy sold it already, so I'll just have to wait for another one! Unless I get a Stromung!

Well, the guy is asking 50GBP which I believe is the going rate for an STi exhaust. The exchange rate from CDN to GBP is 2.2823 so 50GBP is about $115. An STi exhaust from SPD is $368USD (but it comes with a SS centre pipe). What is not included in the price is shipping. Of course shipping from the states will be cheaper. If the UK price comes out to around 200 Canuck Bucks in total, I'm probably gonna go for it! Again, shipping is the variable here.

Question

like Keiho said...if someone is willing to go underneath your car to unbolt your STi muffler...just give it to him...

BUT if you are more concern about an accident or someone really steal your vehicle away and took it off...i believe ICBC will replace you w/ a MY00 RS OEM one...unless you have a official receipt from some shop...most of the time i heard those private sale / used parts won't be covered...

i know a guy who spun around and curbed his car and the front bumper broken into half...(aftermarket bumper) and the rear lip broken into half as well...ICBC dares to put down exchange OEM bumper (exchange means recondition bumper) on it even the bumper was still actually there but too expensive to repair it comparing to replace it...

it takes the guy like 2 weeks of arguing until he found the original invoice for the kit he bought....before ICBC finally approved to go for aftermarket....(i am not trying to oppose what Don says...but u know when in real life it depends on the case and the ppl who works on it and i think Don once mention there is nothing really specify for this kind of matter or sth?!)

Cool

That's was just a easy question

Take a look of my car is totally damage
and the ICBC cover all the stuff I bought even the light inside the car, the rims, the tires, and all the stuff...

So hey man don't worry, it will under the cover but remember one thing, you got to keep the receive then they will give you the money for that

Thumbs up

It's just the "receipt" thing since the STi muffler was/is comming off of a car in the UK where it was original equipment. Oh well, like I said before, I won't have to worry about it for now cauz the guy already sold the muffler.

Thanx guyz
