Default Aftermarket exhaust on an automatic tranny

A Scoobysport muffler fitted to a '99 TS with an automatic transmission won't sound the same as it would on a WRX standard, but would it really make a BIG difference?

It'll make a difference, but not a big one.

Any decent muffler will make a difference, but it's just a part of the overall exhaust system. I second that, the Scoobysport will make a difference, but without midpipe and headers, not as much of a difference.

SSport on an NA car will sound even MEANER than it would on a Turbo'd car

turbo's tend to be a tick quieter... sorry guys

pick the muffler that you like the best, and go for it!

i had a LOUD N MEAN one on my 4EAT Legacy....

have fun

I think Subie Gal is right. The turbo takes all the great boxter engine sound and sort of mutes it, then adds the noise of the turbo spinning.

With an NA you get the noise "direct from the cylinders" so to speak. With the right exhaust you can be gurgly similar to some old v8 engine, just at a higher pace.

I believe (please correct me if I'm wrong) that the exhaust alone would not increase horsepower drastically. With the addition of a high-flow cat however, combined with a CAI, power would be increased fairly significantly.

At least I think this is true...

Don't forget headers and cams!

If I succeed in only changing the sound to that of the Scoobysport, I'm happy (thx, Subie Gal).
If I get a few more horsepower -- until the time comes when I redo the entire exhaust line -- then it's a bonus.

Thanks for all the replies
